Serhou Guirassy

Rockabilly

GAFF LAD. "Open your knees and feel the breeze"
"Drop 'em blossom... let's see if I know you" was the call of the wild youths from Gedling.
Aye Cap'n. At Christmas it was "Drop yer drawers I'm Santa Claus!"

I got to see the boy Guirassy play yesterday - for me, he did not really stand out. Reasonable movement, went down easily a few times, scored with a header from point blank range. Perhaps he is coming back from injury /AFCON - he was substituted in the second half. To be fair, the game was generally pretty poor and nice flowing football was definitely missing - so a dearth of clear cut chances.

@Strummer the travelling Stuttgart fans were in fine voice (even though the small Darmstadt stadium limits numbers)!

Serhou is nursing a bit of a knock, so is being managed.

And yes, the VfB always travel in good numbers and the away support is very vocal.

The Guinean hitman scores again, in a 2-0 victory over 1. FC Union Berlin.

A superb finish from 17m out, marked his 21st Bundesliga goal of the season. Only VfB legends Fritz Walter (22) and Mario Gomez (24) have scored more in a single season in the league, and with nine rounds of matches left to play, you would be hard pressed to find anyone who thinks he won’t overhaul both, if he stays fit.

He was very good last season, before being curtailed by injury, but this term, he’s been superb, even accounting for having to miss a month due to the AFCoN.

Seeing that your head of Nottingham Forest’s recruitment specifically in the Stuttgart area of Germany how are negotiations going regarding you/us/Forest signing young Guirassy @Strummer?

Nee pressure but we’re relying on ya 😉.

Guess who:

Apparently Arsenal after my old mate Gyokeres. What a difference he or Guirassy could have made to our season.

37 goals and 14 assists in 50 games this year for Victor - what's your man on now @Strummer ?

23 goals in 21 games in the league; averaging a goal every 69 minutes.

And if the gossip was correct, he was available for less than €20m in the summer, or about half of an Ibrahim Sangaré.

We tried didn't we? Thought the story was he turned us (and several others) down to stay where he was as he was first choice and settled?

Gyokeres on the other hand - we didn't try there but could have had him... Don't think Cooper and him got on particularly well at their time together in Swansea, so that was that.

I’ve heard both stories; that he didn’t want to leave, but that there was a release-clause there but nobody met it.

Needless to say, I am somewhat happy he stayed put, because he’s been frankly sensational this season.

My man has done it again:

He has now scored in his sixth consecutive Bundesliga match, no other player has managed to score in six consecutive matches this season.

25 for the season now, so far….

With his twenty-fifth goal of the season, Serhou sets a new VfB record, with the highest number of goals in a single season.

And he missed a month at the AFCON as well.

Mario Gomez‘ record of 24 is gone, and it could not have gone to a nicer player.
