Do we still count Pete O'Rourke as a reliable source?

He says there are talks on for an extension to his contract

Forest are magic on and off the pitch!
I do like Aurier, but he was born in December 92, meaning he will be 31 during the course of this season. He did have a fair amount of time out also last season as well as some occasions when he looked to be playing through something. Likely as he gets older this situation will get worse not better. Also, as I'm sure Cooper wants to stick to his original idea of a back 5 and wing backs, it's not the most amazing fit for Aurier as a RWB as he doesn't appear to have a similar type engine to someone like Neco or Aina so may well fit in more at RCB as this progresses, even then CB is a position where we do have plenty of players (Biancone is still here and can play RCB/RB, along with the main options - Niakhate, Felipe, Worrall, Boly, McKenna - and the new lads - Murillo, Norwich lad) so where would he fit in there given he's not the tallest and CB is a position where height can make a difference (see Boly).

If we do continue to progress as a club this season it's potentially this kind of player we will probably outgrow, as much good as he has done for us last season and no doubt will do this season. And I'm expecting this Saudi thing will be a fad for a few more years yet and they will be offering ageing players silly money to play over there for a few years... may well end up there next year I'd guess.

Rumour has it he turned down Saudi interest this summer so chances are the same thing will happen again next.

From a Forest POV they've got a reliable player who's still got at least a couple of years left until he starts to decline.

Makes sense to renew, especially if we've decided Neco isn't going to pick up the slack.

If there is genuine Saudi interest in Serge we'd be better off getting him on another contract so a fee would be needed for any deal. Regardless, I wouldn't be against a year extension with an option of another.

After the last 25 years of watching the likes of Nicky Eaden shanking the ball into the car park I never ever thought I would see the day when someone would suggest Forest would outgrow a right back of the ability of Serge Aurier.

You don't understand, it's not just Aurier, it's 31yo Aurier. He should be taken out back and shot, it's the humane thing to do for someone of his age

Perhaps thinking of helping his longevity by moving him to the right of a back three with Montiel/Williams/Aina at wing back. Someone will no doubt point out that this didn’t work too well against Burnley. But that’s what coaching’s for I guess.

Age is a number, there are zero signs in Serge's game age is catching up to him. The grass isn't always greener, Serge performed well above the level we played at for the entire of last season.

We have signed about 40 players since promotion & he was the best signing of the lot for me.

I mean, you know I'm not actually saying we should kill him right??

It's very difficult to tell what's a joke on the internet nowadays. My initial reaction was that you were in favour of his death.

He was definitely one of our best players last season, but then we had a lot of squad players who weren't good enough and a lot of key players spending a lot of time out injured. The bar is in a different place now as we have improved both the first team and the squad including signing a world cup winning RB and another full back who can play RB and LB, as well as the expensive young RWB we signed the summer before who is much better at RWB than he is at RB and is a WIP who is likely to improve. The dynamic will settle more eventually as Montiel settles in, Aina is probably going to be playing LB, and as Neco improves, at the same time Aurier's powers are more likely to wane due to age.

Now i'm not suggesting age is affecting him yet but he is at the age where he's likely to become a step or two slower or be more affected by injuries, RB and RWB are quite dynamic positions, where a player needs the engine to get up and down the pitch for 90 minutes, maybe more than 100 these days with the amount of added time, he's already had the odd moment where he's been staggering around a bit like Andy Murray between points when it's gone out of play, which is probably just conserving energy to an extent, but as he gets older this is going to go only one way.

I don't know the age range of the first choice PL full backs and wing backs, but I'd be surprised if many of them were above about 32/33, so Aurier is likely to be only good enough for a season or two. Strikes me any extension puts that more in our hands as well as meaning the club has more value if Saudi clubs want him.

Not just his death, anyone after 30, life is for the young

I used to put "lol" after jokes simply because it's what everyone of my generation did in texts and I hadn't even realised I was still doing it online.

Then when I made a joke with "lol" at the end on a matchday thread loads of people replied critising my use of it and how it was passive aggressive and didn't disguise the fact I was being serious even when I wasn't, now I find myself consciously making sure I haven't put it.

Life is hard, it's even harder now my LOL's have gone :(

I haven't laughed out loud in years

I’m sure I saw a film years ago where they did just that, you get to 30 odd and bam, dressed you up in a green outfit and threw you in a wood chipper.

Something like that anyway.
