I'd agree. The authorities have bottled dealing with this kind of thing for long enough.

Holloway is right about this. He's wrong about it costing them a point and that might be the point which relegates them though. They will be down by Valentines Day.

Not as wrong as you thinking he was the one who said that :nowink:

As long as they get thirteen points or more, I'm not concerned!

It's not enough to say send them off, because by the very nature of the act referees don't always spot the dive.

Retrospective video evidence should be used, and those found guilty should face meaningful suspensions.

The problem at the moment is the potential reward versus potential punishment (a penalty or a yellow card - or even no punishment at all) makes it far too tempting to dive.

If we can't trust players to have some sort of integrity and trust them not to cheat - and obviously we can't - we have to make it simply not worth it.

Pitch side tazers for the worst offenders. Suarez in particular.

And what happens when someone is sent off for 'diving' and it turns out they were genuinely fouled a la Danny Welbeck?

Retrospective punishments are the only ones that are remotely feasible and even then you'll have a hard time proving what a player was intending at the time.

It's all about mid-table...
When it's blatant it's blatant.

When ya loyal ya loyal.

Referees will rarely get it wrong when "it's in ya face", when they actually rarely do then the whole football industry and the press included should stand squarely behind them, even the offending club. Cloughie would.

I would ban the player for an entire season, no matter who he is. Right is right, Stamp the f***** out.

Borrow a rule from Rugby Union - allow players to be cited, and evidence reviewed, by an independent commissioner after the match.

If a player is guilty of a dive, then a one-match ban.

Simple.

Only in England is this viewed as cheating. It must be a cultural thing.
On the continent it's viewed as clever play.... The anger is never aimed at the offending player, but at the referee for failing to spot the offence

That's why we're the greatest country in the world. Values, decency, fair play, justice....

Mind ya, that's why we never win owt.

Hows about if you are retrospectively called up for diving then you cannot be given a free kick in the next match, even if it's a clear waist high kung fu scissor leg breaking snap.

I do remember seeing an interview with a Spanish or South American player and he basically said diving and trying to win fouls is part of the game and completely acceptable. I think it was in the aftermath of the Eduardo incident.

Alexi lalas has just said the same on twitter. Should be applauded if dobe correctly. WTF!

You cant send a player off as refs get it wrong and it is very hard to call. Retrospective punishment makes sense. I think it is too tempting to dive and try and earn a free kick, not sure if match bans are the way forward, although I do think it would stop players doing it and cant really think up another alternative...

Will they look at the countless dives by fullback s running the ball towards their goal line too. That really annoys me.

But what makes this "crime" anymore worthy of retrospective punishment than other incidents the referee has failed to call correctly?

Think it was Guillam Balegue (spell check) on Sky Sports if its the one I'm thinking of.
