Where's me hammer?
Love the final clip when he gets a foul from Garnachos, Garnachos had a proper little tantrum
In that passage of play I don't think the cameras gave justice to Necos tackle, you could hear him make the tackle in the stands with the thud it's one that gets everyone out their seats... Ryan then performs the "Yates flop" and Forest are out of trouble

It must have a lot to do with the approach, under cooper, yates would turn back, pass it back or fall over to get a freekick.

We are a better team when Ryan Yates starts.
Yates is great but I think this is overstating it. Just taking the last two games, I'd say we were better against Newcastle than against United and Yates came on in the 70th minute. He's a very important player but I wouldn't go as far as saying he's essential to our success.

You're brave. This isn't a debate thread, it's a worship thread.

FWIW I think you're spot on. He's back up to Sangaré.

Weighing up what I've watched this season, every game bar Fulham away, I'd have Yates ahead of Sangarè. With Yates you know what you're getting, full blooded, committed 90 mins, whereas Sangarè has shown glimpses but he's not been as influential as Yates. Standout player in a Dutch league but alot to prove in the Prem.

Not a worship thing from me, I was Yates' biggest critic up until a couple of years ago. Can't speak for others!

I'm not saying it has to be Sangare, and I have no issue with Yates starting. I think we're in a good position with CMs.

I think we are at the stage where Yates in the team is a non negotiable. He is the last of the promotion team and he is also the soul of our club (again in the absence of Cooper, BJ and the expected departures of Worrall and McKenna). We desperately need to maintain that connection to our city and our past. Without it we are merely another faceless, characterless billionaire's plaything.

Oh, and he's a fantastic footballer to boot. I still believe (and I have not been drinking) that he's an England player of the future albeit in three or four years. We haven't seen anywhere near his best yet.

We won at Newcastle with him starting from the bench. It's pretty clear that the manager doesn't agree with you. Yes, he's in the team but it's far from non-negotiable.

It shows in the game after Newcastle that he a) started and b) was made captain.

Could that suggest his substitute appearance and showing in training moved him into a favourable position?

I think it shows that how we set up to play Newcastle was different to how we set up to play Man Utd.

Premier league doesn’t really facilitate a one size fits all team. It’s all about getting the right blend on a game by game basis.

Yates is a brilliant player, and our record with him in the team vs out of it shows how crucial he is, but sometimes the tactics call for a different set up.

I rate him and would always pick him, but there are games where Mangala and Sangare in the middle will have a better outcome than Nico and Yates and vice versa.

Given we won both the Newcastle and Man Utd games it shows that Nuno has already seen that we have enough versatility in the squad to create different midfield dynamics for different situations.
