Also, it feels like everytime we spend money on the midfield Yates steps up again.

He seems to thrive when his spots under pressure and raises his game to ensure he’s not dropped, I think Nuno will love him to be honest.

We’ve got a quality set of midfielders really.

A cracking and old school engine room performance last night.
Its a good sign when a player receives the ball in a tight spot and it doesn't cause you panic and that side of his game, along with many others, has come on in leaps and bounds.
Lovely to see he's worked constantly on his game and not faded away in a difficult to establish position like the likes of Thornhill, Grant etc who were probably at the same level Yates was when they initially came in.
I think Yates really appreciates the opportunity that he is blessed with and gives his all just like most of us think we would.
He uses his brain as well as his body and cuts the opposition down with a smile on his face.
I would imagine the academy staff tell the pupils to copy Yates attitude

He is the sort of player that proves that talent isn't everything.
Hes admitted that he isn't the greatest footballer, but, his mindset is such that he wants to leave everything on the pitch.

So Nuno is manager number 6 that hasn't got the memo that Yates is shit .

Only one sensible course of action based on that..

It's time for a change of manager.

Screw The PL
Sangaré will start ahead of him when available. Just as he did at St James' Park.

Yatesy will give Nuno a headache in February if he continues to play as he did last night.
I think Sangare will eventually assume that role, being Nuno’s go to player in that role…..but he needs to up his levels a little before that happens. Fitness especially.

Random question, has Yates played many games at CB ?
IIRC, In the promotion season, Cooper used to drop him back to CB sometimes during a game to give us a flexible 3 CB’s. I’m surprised he’s not done it more - although IIRC again, the last time he did it he scored an own goal.

I think his passing has always been underrated in recent times. How often does he give it away cheaply? Hardly ever, long gone are those days in the Championship where he struggled to complete a pass. It’s an area of his game he has improved massively.
Agreed. Someone put up his stats table from this game that, while otherwise impressive, somehow determined he had made 0 key passes! His slide rule ball out to Elanga for our first goal was outstanding, and key to the entire move. He was almost our deepest player, in-between the two centre backs, and proceeded to take out two Manure players with a perfectly weighted pass, allowing Elanga to quickly send it through to Montiel. The whole move was slick and precise, and all began with that incisive pass from our Yatesy.

I liked it that he quite literally put his foot on the ball - playmaker style - in the build-up to our first goal.
He did that enough times in the academy :D

Where's me hammer?
I f***ing loved the moment Bruno the rat was complaining to the ref in the second half, and Yatesy pushed him over like he weren't there.

Yatesy forever!
Read about any successful team and the captain always leads by example.

Compare the two captain's last night.

One sets the standard and has done at every level he's stepped up to... the other plays for Manchester United.

Also the second goal was set up by him winning the ball and carrying it 50 yards or so to elanga who set the goal up
