Re: Why Roy...

Martin O'Neill is a smart guy. He's worked with Roy for a while now and if he wants him, he clearly works well with him and believes he does a good job. If not, then he'd find someone else.

Yep agree with this. MON has been around the block enough times to know what works well as part of a management team. I had reservations about Keane in management capacity but I think we should just trust O'Neills judgment on this.

Re: Why Roy...

I'm just never sure of him. I don't know why he needs the bravado so much, I agree with Cortez I think he has a lot more to offer than the hard man stuff but doesn't seem to be willing to show it, publicly at least. It's a shame because he does come across as a bit of a nob because of it.

This is absolutely right. He seems to have become a prisoner to the image he created and is therefore at risk all the time of self-caricature. As a player, if you watched him live, you could see how superbly intelligent he was - he could keep an instant picture on his head of everything that was happening on the field so he could anticipate the next move and change the flow.
And he has always done a huge amount of charity work without looking for any credit for it. It's just a pity that he feels obliged to play up the hard bastard role.

Watch this: https://youtu.be/Vey0DEhy5Dw

He says the hard man stuff is mostly media generated and he is a bit misunderstood.

Mind you he does go on to say he would have a go at Alex Ferguson if he ever saw him again, and mocks Robbie Savage.

Re: Why Roy...

I’m just looking forward to the third installment of Keano’s autobiography.

It’s not often we get the true story of what’s happened behind the scenes at Forest but we surely will after that

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me, he’ll do just fine.

Re: Why Roy...

Sorry for my ignorance in this matter but i am confused as to why they are looking at roy keane ?
surley John Robertson would be the better choice as Martins assistant as he has stated in past he would jump at the opportunity to get back into football ?
Or have i missed something ?

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned yet but I heard a little rumour the other day (although I don’t think Roy will come myself) that they are trying to get Roy in as assistant at the moment with something in place to take over as manager at the end of MON contract (rumoured to be 18 months) should they be successful.
As I say it’s from someone who has be right many times before. But the fact I don’t think Roy will be joining MON tells you how much I think it’s true.
