He is very much underrated here because prior to joining Fulham pretty much all of his managerial posts were in Sweden, Switzerland and Italy where he was highly regarded. In fact his record up until then was one of the best.
He had a year or so at Blackburn where he didn't do too badly at first but then they didn't build on the squad in the summer and ended up going down under Brian Kidd.
At Fulham he got them to a UEFA final and kept them in the PL as he did at WBA and didn't get much of a chance at Liverpool. Don't think he did too badly with the national side, given the expectation there generally exceeds capability. Palace would probably be in the EFL without his years there in both spells.
Realistically speaking if he'd got the chance at Man Utd to replace SAF there probably wouldn't have been all this merry go round with crap managers they have every so often, he's probably one of the few who is as talented a manager as Ferguson was, and it's a shame he has only so far had the chance of a few months at Liverpool to manage a top club in his home country.
I do know that Roy will never have to buy a drink in Udine, as long as he lives.
