Roy Hodgson

If you're going to resurrect the International career of a defender who's a complete bell end please can it be John Terry?

At least he isn't four years past his best.

No wonder my post count..
It seems Roy has succumbed to old England managers habit of just picking the same old same old.

Not happy about this but Hodgson has gone about his job nicely and England are looking a dam sight better than under Capello.

I think it points to a deficiency at center back for England right now, which has to be some sort of first.

And that some English Centre Backs struggle to get a game at the supposed "top" clubs due to other players (foreign and perhaps better) in their positions - Vidic, Kompany, et al.

Maybe, but is Lescott international class? Not sure he is. Smalling could be, if he ever stays fit.

That, and the fact Vidic and Kompany might be the best two center backs in the EPL right now.

Smalling internation class? Sorry, can't ever see it.

For me England don't have any amazing centre halves but people like Dawson, Jagielka and Cahill are more than good enough.

Ferdinand is better than them 3, Ferdinand is a bell but as an Englishman his form has been outstanding and no Jagielka and non playing Lescott Ferdinand has to play.

Ferdinand is no better than any of them.

I had high hopes for Phil Jones who i thought looked outstanding when he first came through at Blackburn. Seems Fergie enjoys trying him everywhere on the pitch.

Jones has everything needed to be the ball playing centre half of a pair. I see him and Cahill as our long term duo.

I've no objection to Rio's recall other than the fact he's a complete prat.

Dawson > Ferdinand

I love Dawson but hes a clogger, Ferdinand plays football and you see him make less slide tackles and thats a sign of a better CB. Ferdinand is a bell and always been a bell but on football ability hes better. No one should moan about his inclusion because their are literally no other alternatives at the moment.

On form alone then Ferdinand is deserving of a recall.

For years we've consistently produced top-drawer centre halves with good quality in reserve, it's one of the few positions we've done well in! From Butcher, Walker, Adams, Campbell up to Terry and Ferdinand. At the moment we're not as blessed there as we have been in the past. Lescott has done okay but I wouldn't call him world-class, Cahill is certainly a better option.

I hope Phil Jones can stay fit and be given a regular run at centre back at Man Utd, he's got the talent and potential to be world class.

Ferdinand is a disgrace after pulling out of the England game and should never wear the shirt again.

Not only is Rio Ferdinand an utter bellend with absolutely no class, he's always way past his best.

I'd rather see Jagielka in there every day of the week at this point in both of their careers. Infact, he's the type of player I could see Fergie signing at Man Utd. In reality though, they're completely different players, infact, they'd probably have been a good pairing at one point. But no to Rio from now on.

Shame Jags is injured.

Agree about Jones, but his own adaptability is his own downfall at the minute. He's still got a lot to leanr at centre-half, I remember seeing Shola Ameobi giving him hell, but that's how you learn.

I think Cahill and Jones could be a good partnership in time.

Steve Taylor is an accident waiting to happen. If he was taller, Ash Cole would make a damn fine centre-back with all his experience.

Certainly a bit a of a surplus at the minute. Lescott should bite the bullet and move on from Man City though. He isn't the best we have by far, but he's not a bad solution when injuries occur.

It's all about mid-table...
They're all overpaid shite as far as top international defenders are concerned, that's why England will never win anything.

Very disappointed in Rio a seven hour flight to Qatar with a chronic back problem he should just retire from international football if he cant play 2 games a week then that's it for him might as well kick it in. Hes the best English defender at the moment but the way hes handled all this leaves a sour taste. So we have Taylor and Caulker called up so dont want to start a new thread who would you start in the Montenegro game (I could play against San Marino) so not that game.

Personally i would go for this against san marino

Hart
Johnson Smailling Lescott Cole
Milner Gerrard Carrick Cleverly
Walcott Rooney

Then i would give the likes of Sturridge, Young and Chamberlain a run out in the second half.

If Smalling and Jones could stay fit I think they could make an England CB pairing. Smalling would make a decent ball playing CB as would Jones. Need consistent game time though.

For San Marino, I'd go with that but Caulker for Smalling and Baines for Cole.

Then for Montenegro, I'd bring those two back in and swap Young for Milner and Defoe for Wellbeck.

Rio's getting some payback on Hodgson for choosing Terry over him in the Euros.

As if his withdrawal from the squad wasn't humiliation enough, the news that he's flying out to Qatar for media work is just the cherry on top.

Hopefully Hodgson has learnt his lesson and won't be foolish enough to call him up again.

Hodgson should have just binned him rather than set himself up for this inevitable pantomime from a spoilt child and the petty purple nosed thundercunt that owns him.

Roy Keane summed him up perfectly, "He (Rio) thinks he is the best centre half in the world - he isn't even the best centre half in his own family"
