Because they’ve bastardised the King‘s English to suit their nation of simpletons.

And don‘t get me started that they seemingly cannot pronounce „Jaguar“ or „Aluminium“ properly (Jag-waaaah? Aloooominum? f*** off).

And the one that really - for bizarre reason - winds me up: „I am working with (some entity) to get (something)“ No, you aren‘t. You don‘t „work with“ a pimply teenager when you order your McFatburger from McDonalds, you absolute f***ing trumpet.
Whateva. Do you all speak your brand of English as the lords and ladies from days of yore used to? Don't be so provincial. Language changes and morphs over time and no single nation has any sort of lofty status in relation to it's perception.

^^^ That.

So according to the stories coming out over there, the fee we're asking for makes him too expensive for Vancouver as they work within the MLS restrictions.

Hopefully that at least means we know we can get the money elsewhere.
Don't worry, he'll probably go for free after a contact termination when we realise the intricacies of all the loan deals.

I agree. My current favourite is "it's not that big of a deal," as opposed to "it's not that big a deal." I find it quite cute and am amused every time I encounter it, which is often. I haven't quite got as far as using it myself.

I still curl my toes at the memory (from my self-righteous youth) of haranguing a colleague for saying "skedule." There are bigger, more important hills to die on, imho.

Not having any of it. In this country we all use the correct words and spellings but everyone says them differently with their accents.

Over there they use the incorrect words, then spell them incorrectly anyway and then say them in a weird way; often adding an extra pointless bit for good measure e.g. Oftentimes.

They should change the language name to American, not English (US).

American English used to wind me up but typically when you research it, you find the stuff they say or spell different is because we used to say or spell it that way. Webster also tried to simplify an incredibly complex language, which was a foolish but admirable endeavour. This quote from James D Nicoll about sums up what the English language is: "The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary."

This is a good episode from Melvyn Bragg's Adventure of English.

I discovered this guy's channel a few months ago, if you want a lighter take.

Wanted by Red Star Belgrade apparently. Loan with obligation to buy.

Apparently he is “designated as a free agent by MLS” (whatever the f*** that means) so he can only sign for a MLS team for free. Might explain why he’s still hanging around.

It means he's not avaiable to be in the draft, which is technically correct as he belongs to Forest.

MLS clubs can sign players outside of the draft though, using trades, “allocation money” or a mix of both. I was also aware that players who have been drafted but choose to play in Europe instead remain sort of attached to a club (so that if they ever enter MLS that club has first dibs on them or needs to earn a trade/allocation money).

But I have no idea what being allocated as a free agent means for a player that plays outside the league.

MLS is so complicated. The only FM save I’ve just given up on….
