Opened this hoping we had put a bid in for him.......

He must see many players seem to be regretting going to Saudi, though it is a lot of money. I mean it does set you up for life, and the next life, and the 100 lifes after that.

Unless you spend it on a Saudi male hooker, then it sets you up for death...

They won't be happy and content. No way.

Everything comes at a price. Everything.

I like Lodi. He's become strangely nomadic though... Something seems odd there.
Maybe how well he connected with us and how emotional it made him scared him. Now he just wants to earn money and not get so emotionally invested. Our club is special after all.

I just read the Brentford forum and had a bit of a chuckle, they turned quite quickly from rejoicing at signing a Brazilian, then saying he wasn't that good a player (And inaccurately that he only got Brazil caps when playing in spain not for us), then rejoicing again because it would "Boil Forests piss" and that he at least would be good at sh*thousing to being all woe is me because he's potentially off to the Saudi league and that they again missed a player that they've targeted.

They don't get that as well as the obvious wealth connotations that there are also about 30 Brazil players in Saudi including obviously huge names like Neymar as well as other national team players. I imagine their national team boss would find it easier (And more appealing) whipping over to Saudi to see a fair few potential sections for the national team than trying to find a bus stop in hounslow and work out how despite conceding 3 goals and getting 2 red cards the Brentford fans were overjoyed because they had a higher xG.

Another one who is willing to sell their soul. People might say, you wouldn't turn down that type of money either.

He's already making more than most people. £3.3m a year at Marseille. Pure greed, I'm afraid.
It seems to already be unravelling. But I suppose if you are a player who isn’t quite top level you can probably double your money.

I know it is easy for me to say but I genuinely would rather play in a major European league for a couple of million a year rather than in Saudi for double.

Probably wise not to have bought him given that:

1) He would have cost £15m+
2) That would have further impacted our issues with FFP
3) It would have meant Toffolo wouldn't have played, who's own value has probably gone from c.3m to c.£10-15m this season.
4) Toffolo's probably been just as good.

So we've saved ourselves £15m, increased the net asset value of the squad by £10m and haven't looked any worse for it.

I still rate Lodi highly. Last season him and Aurier locked down the flanks and we were much tighter defensively than we've been this year.

In six months when he realises Saudi is a shit place to live and play, I'd be very happy if we went back on for him.

People saying he's sold out but to me, it's the same sort of mentality that saw Oscar leave Chelsea to go play in the Chinese Super League. These Brazilian lads often times come from really poor backgrounds and being able to take care of not just yourself but your entire family, in a way that is going to take them out of them conditions, why wouldn't you?

He was one of my favourite players last season and it's a shame that we couldn't bring him back here permanently but I certain wish him well. I suspect he'll be back in Europe after a season or two. The Saudi League project doesn't seem to taking off the PIF hoped it would.

I think someone said on here a lot of the Brazilian lads who play professional football aren’t from the real arse end ghettos, but I don’t know about that.

But they have already made more than enough money to change their lives. Lodi has earned incredible money at Athletico Madrid, Forest and Marseille. It’s totally in his own hands if he chooses to probably double his money and play in a pointless league in an undesirable country to live.

I think that was me.

I've seen lots about this. Documentaries, articles, etc.

Just like in English football, it's not enough to have talent - you need someone who can do the hard miles with you.

The really poor just don't have either the fiancé's or social capital to get their kids through the youth systems.

There's the occasional kid who makes it out of the flavella, but on the whole it's not like that.

Or MLS! Then you could live in Florida, maybe.

For me I don’t blame players at the end of their careers doing it. If I was Jordan Henderson for example I’d have stuck it out for the obscene money he was getting in Saudi. Having said that I do love Holland and playing for Ajax would be totally immense. But enough to give up on £100m?
