Renan Augusto Lodi

At the beginning of the season i really liked him when others were slating him. At the end of the season it was the other way round where others were praising him more than me.

He's been a really good player for us and quite balanced in terms of defensive solidity and attacking intent but what i didn't see was a powerful or particularly pacey player who caused mayhem. That's Aurier; it could even be Williams and it could be that Richards has both.

Whilst I'm sure we wanted him back, as did I, it could be a blessing in disguise as the last thing we would have wanted was for Lodi to end up second choice on a long contract along with Richards.

I'm slightly disappointed and happy in equal measures.

Very disappointing. You have to imagine we are signing a LB, Toffolo is not good enough and Richards missed an entire season.

A real blow that one, brilliant player.

Hopefully he won't be remembered as the best left back we have had for a long long time.

I am intrigued who we bring in (they won't be better at that price). I would have more than happily paid double for what he went for.
At around 10m not only they won't be better, 99% they'll be considerably worse.

Everyone was bewailing the loss of the loanees last season yet we ended up with better replacements in every position.Lodi will be replaced

I know what you are saying OMR, but there were clear upgrade paths on those players.

To replicate a player of Lodi's pedigree and quality will take money or some very smart business.

It obviously can be done, but it's just annoying that we have to do it.

I liked Lodi, once he settled he was a good player for us but I think some are overdoing his impact. A game changer? Come on.

Remember, Richards was the guy they targeted and signed last season, Lodi only came in after Richards injury was discovered. Do we really have the capacity in our squad to have nearly £25m invested in both Lodi and Richards to play left back? Especially when, in Coopers team, we have seen anyone come in an look good (bar maybe Neco the first half of the year but while Serge was out even he started to look the part).

Disappointing news but not the end of world.

As I said a few weeks ago. He wouldn't have made the top 5 of players I'd least want to lose.

Good left back and given the choice I'd have wanted him to stay but he can definitely be replaced.

That fee says he didn't want to come here.
Yep. It wouldn't surprise me if we were never even in for him. Similar to Spence last year where we knew he wasn't coming back so never bid.

Agent probably put our name out there to squeeze a few more quid out the French.

Oh well, at least it didn't drag out so long as to not source other options. Cheers Renan.
Bit harsh, he made it clear that he wanted Champions League football, we knew his Mrs wasnt keen on coming here.

Just because some random Twitter accounts said it was close doesn't mean it was...

That's how I see it. Good player but not that good I'm that upset over missing out.

We definitely need the Aurier of the LB post, maybe that is Omar.

The one player I really didn’t want to move to „Ex-Players“.

🙁

Bringing in an experienced head to challenge for the spot (as we did with Serge) wouldn't be a bad idea.

One day supporters will learn not to get carried away when the badge is kissed or years are shed by a player.

No they won't :ROFLMAO:

FWIW I don't give a rat's ass either way. He only seemed good cos we haven't really had any talent in that position for such a long time.
He wasn't shite by any means but he was left on his ass far too many times for my liking. Saying that, as ever, this is only ok if they manage to get someone better in :D
