Remo Marco Freuler + Trains thread

Given his career in football at club and international level he clear has a lot to offer.

Is he suited to the premier league, quite possibly not as he might not have the athleticism.

But why do we have to find reasons to bring this up after a good day at the office?
Because to some, being proved right on the internet is VERY important.

I’ve stood up up for him a couple times this season. He’s looked a good assured leader for most part but just a bit too pedestrian at times aswell. I’m glad the younger lads have knocked him to the bench.
I think with Freuler it’s another case of player that looks good in Italian league coming, and can’t cope with the speed and intensity of the prem.
Look a Kouliaby at Chelsea, for a while been considered one of the best defenders in the world whilst at Napoli and this season has been a bit meh.

Overall happy with Freuler’s contribution this season especially as the alternatives at times would have been, Colback or Cafu?

If we achieve our goal this year _everyone_ who's contributed will have played their part. Some more than others obviously, but we've won points with the likes of Shelvey and Wood (equaliser Vs city no less) and positive contributions, which Frueler has undoubtedly made, should not get forgotten.

In a better team he might fit in. We need all midfielders to be more proactive than he is, both in and out of possession.

Hope he gets a good move back to Italy, Fiorentina will need to replace Amrabat for example. He's obviously a very good pro, otherwise Coops wouldn't ever have given him the armband.

In honesty I'll be glad to see the back of him if he goes in the summer.

I imagine we've given him a fair wad though and his value is not going up is it..

I could only watch him offload ball responsibility to Worrall only for him to pump it upfield so many times.

freuler just isn't suited to the aggressive, high press, high intensity game that cooper wants. While remo have the energy, his preference not to dive into tackles often means games can sometimes bypass him. He's more suited to a midfield with less pressure.

He's responsible for my realisation that the Prem is a better standard than international football and I feel dirty and unpure for acknowledging that fact.

I've resisted the Prem, mainly as a disciple of the EFL, but it's all consuming and the quality is outstanding.

Fair play to SKY.

The biggest mystery for me this season has not been how a defensive midfielder in a team that concedes 70% posession could have so little impact on games week after week, it was how he got picked for so long.

Only Cooper can answer that I guess but thank god he saw the light before it was too late. Had he retained his place in the starting 11, I think we would already be relegated, in fact im virtually certain of it.

Off to Italy you go young man.

I've never seen anything to suggest he has what it takes to make it in the PL other than statistics that show he runs around a lot.

He may well be quality elsewhere but he's definitely not for us. I'd wager that had we binned him earlier we'd have finished higher & more comfortably.

It's a shame it took Steve until the Liverpool away game (I think- where he was stood watching the stands) to realise this.

It's against Andorra. I don't think much can be read into it.
I think you can. He was kind of a victim of circumstances at points in the season.

He needs to be further forward, which then conversely damages his chances of starting. But he can play. His career clearly shows that.

I don't totally disagree but Andorra isn't a comparible level, their population is smaller than Mansfield. I think our low block and rapid counters were not ideal for him.

his atlanta nickname as 'the conductor' doesn't help him, if you looked at his atlanta clips , he had much more space and time , last season in the premier league , it was rush hour traffic in midfield and his reluctance to dive into tackles means the game can bypass him. He needed to adapt his game to forest needs like mangala did, at this point he might be more suited for olympiacos.

He had a decent game...against Andorra. He doesn't cut it in the premier league. Had we been relegated he may have been a good option but we're in the Prem so need better. Rarely have I seen a slower midfielder in a Forest shirt. It's no coincidence we looked a far better team the last six games when he wasnt in the team, more energy more dynamism. Sell and try to recoup around £4-5 million.

I'd like to keep him, even if he's not a regular starter. Knowing the amount of injuries Forest seem to have every season, he's still a good player to have in the squad.

It's up to him whether he wants to stay and fight for his place though.

Yeah I’m probably not bothered either way to be honest. Maybe you keep one of either him or LoB.

I would try to availed a massive overhaul, so swapping out say 4 or 5 midfielders would be excessive to me.

He’s not great, but I don’t think he’s shit either. He is good enough for the 25. That may not be good enough for him.
