Rafik Djebbour

Totally agree with the comments about players not passing to Djebbour. It was so obvious. In fact Reid was the main culprit. Abdoun and Djebbour 'split' the dressing room but only because the other players were childish.
That sort of opinion is looked down upon in this forum. Very anti abdoun here. I liked abdoun.

Re: Rafik djebbour

I dont think he was given a chance...... So many folk banging the drum of pato not getting a chance this season yet i bet pato has played double the games this season that rafik did last season..... Might have been a bellend but still should have had more of a run out.

Yeah, especially when we struggled for strikers.

we potentially on to something good with the muslim invasion (gued, abdoun and rafik) until billy got rid of gued

gued was not retained

abdoun came out as a complete knob and never got a proper chance

rafik didn't get a proper chance

The point I always raise when on the subject of Djebbour, we never got to see him. We had so much hype over this guy, what a prolific scorer he was, the usual YouTube compilation video did the rounds, but when he actually arrived we barely even saw him play.
Gary Brazil talked about lack of motivation, says the man who shows literally zero emotion on the touchline. Those were some dark times for Forest.

Going over old ground here but selling Geddy could have made a huge difference on both Abdoun and Djebbour's Forest careers.

He seemed to be relatively popular and could have been the link to integrate them into the squad.

Seeing as there is no logical reason for selling him (as no replacement was bought, buy before you sell and all that) then I wouldn't have put it past Billy to have sold him knowing it would ostracise the other two Algerians he didn't want - therefore giving him an excuse to Fawaz not to play them.

He thought he was getting Leadbitter. Simple as that.

Seeing we are on the subject of Rafik Djebbour I was one of fortunate/unfortunate ones to meet Rafik. The guy is unbelievable with what he had to say. Below are the quotes he said to me at 2014 end of season awards dinner:

English need to chill out, why can't I park my car anywhere? In Greece you can park anywhere without getting a parking ticket!

Like me who wants to play at Huddersfield and Blackpool in the winter when you are a full international?

I'm not bothered if I play or not as I'll still earn my money

The coach never signed me it was one of the president (Fawaz)friends

Forest play on the air too much I need to have it to feet or I can't perform

He said Billy Davies is hard to understand and it's his fault I won't play in Brazil for Algeria.

That's the mad world of Rafik Djebbour.

Pretty standard stuff from a footballer I'd say. I could imagine Lansbury saying similar.

Rafik Djebbour, 34, played in the French 3rd league last year. Fostiras, a historic Greek club now playing in the local Attica division (imagine something similar to a pub league) offered him 20,000 euros per year to play for them.

The only problem is that when they met him he was well above 10 kilos overweight.

TBF I've played with some ex-pros who've been similarly (or above) levels of overweight at really low levels of the football pyramid and it's scary the gulf in class even without the physical side of the game.

The close ball control is just unreal compared to the average bloke who was decent in the U16s. Ghosting past players left right and centre.

True. I joined the Army when there were still National Service lads playing in depot teams (I joined with the last groups in November 1960) and even the players from Div 4 were head and shoulders above the rest of us, who thought we were the bees knees.

Precisely; I once saw a match of an amateur club playing in the second local division, one of the players of which was a 36 year old veteran with a decent career in Greek football (and a chain smoker, as I learnt afterwards). It was like watching Pirlo competing agains an U18 team.

I've experienced a mixed bag of the above.

Played with and against some pro lads who were outstanding and moved like they were figure skating compared to everyone else.

But then i've experienced the other end (Andy White ex Crewe/Notts for example who was like dumbo on ice.

Clinton Morrison for Mickleover Sports is like a very angry fat man who's shit his pants.

Lee Trundle always springs to mind when you speak of those types. Dropped down to Welsh non-league and scored about 3 a game didn't him? Plenty of worldies in there too .

Re: Rafik djebbour

Earlier in August I was privileged to see, as part of the clubs‘ 125th birthday celebrations, not one, but two teams of VfB Stuttgart legends facing off against one another, in an exhibition match.

VfB Stuttgart won 3-2 (don’t ask) but amongst those on display were Krassimir Balakov, Fredi Bobic, Givoanni Elber and Jürgen Klinsmann.

And they all looked like they could still pull on a shirt and do it at the top level (Balakov scored an absolute stormer from 25 meters out).

They might lose a yard of pace, but they never lose the technique.
