Pre-Season 2024/25

The attacking players are not succeeding and however good they are as individuals they don’t click I was cross with Southgate for not realising that foden and Bellingham don’t work well together neither do MGW and Elanga having 2 non scoring attackers is not going to get us anywhere

Viv Anderson
We lined up last night with what appeared to be our first choice 11 for the new season. Anderson wasn't in it.

Highly unlikely to start Vs Bournemouth, so looks likely he'll have to break in.
Yes - I said exactly the same thing when the same 11 came out to start the 2nd half - gave them 60 mins together and then made changes

'I wonder how much football you lot watch' is not needed because you have a different opinion lad.
And neither is being condescending towards other people by calling them 'lad' or 'laddo' just because they have a different viewpoint to you.

Genine question- do you find the term 'lad' condescending Erik?

And if so- why?

Performance was awful tonight. Objectively it was but it’s pre season. Let’s hope we improve when the season kicks off. We’re not creating chances and we look open at the back.

Squad is obviously better but starting 11 dosen’t look like it’s improved
These are friendly games (bar Millwall).
They are played at 80%.
No one wants to get injured during pre-season.

Only caught the first half.

For preseason I thought we looked solid enough against a good team. Attack still lacks fluidity with CHO prone to over play it and Elanga over think it, with Wood mostly just getting in the way. That first time Elanga cross to Wood's volley shows the threat that's there though.

Milenkovic looks a proper destroyer, and Sangare and Danilo both looked a yard quicker in their heads and feet.

How was the 2nd half?

Was an ok game. It is a friendly but I was disappointed with quite a large number of lazy, sloppy touches and passes (mostly Murillo).

CHO needs to go left and cross every now and then.

Yates should have flicked it right to Nico at the end instead of Taiwo.

Was immediately impressed by Anderson and Milenkovic looked calm and composed.

Also, f*** rolling about holding your faces and ankles in a friendly. Pathetic.

Slightly better second half if anything, I think. Anderson looked good, Yates and Dominguez sharp, and I thought MGW was better second half too. A few near chances with balls into Awoniyi who just lacked a little sharpness, unsurprisingly.

I'm just glad Awoniyi at least got some minutes.

If we can keep him fit, he'll get us goals. It's just a shame that keeping him fit is the biggest "If" in the world.

'I wonder how much football you lot watch' is quite a condescending way to present your opinion though, especially on a forum full of Forest nerds in a thread about a preseason game.
I don't disagree and by and large it was dealt with by posters responses.

Be nice to see him get another 30 minutes or so on Thursday - he's clearly behind the rest in terms of his preseason, and the false nine thing is being used to protect wood which is important.

If you know the poster and you are friends then apologies because between friends/colleagues it's a term of endearment.

When it's someone you hardly know (and there is a presumption here that we don't all know each other that well) then it isn't so much a term of endearment but condescending.

Just my view, which I am sure many will disagree with.

And no. It's not personal. Trying to stop some of the name calling and bitchiness we see just because we disagree with each other.

If it was meant in a friend manner then fair enough, but understand it isn't the way it can be read.

A year or two younger Kouyate would make this squad maybe, after that?

I think Anderson won everybody over in about 3 touches.

By the looks of him, he has a very good first touch & that turn he did to leave the Villareal player for dead was brilliant.

I still think the team works better when Yates is in rather than Sangare. Also MGW looks so much more effective from a deeper position.
Yates' energy and ball winning changed the tide as Villareal's fresh legs meant they were winning the midfield for the first time in the game. I'd still persevere with Sangare in there, but Yates' attributes to bring on in the last 20 minutes to seal/change a game are invaluable to us. He made a fantastic interception and got our attack going. I was the only one around me clapping lol most fans just can't see what he does.

I keep asking for MGW to play deeper and you're spot on. He gets on the ball more when not in the 10 and can spray some lovely passes. He doesn't have Brennan anymore which was a huge part to him being indispensable in the 10 in the 22/23 season.

I enjoyed the game last night, Anderson and Mikenkovic look supreme, however the forwards aren't clicking yet which is strange considering it's the same front 3 as last season.

Murillo has had an awful pre-season giving 2 penalties away and countless passes. Hopefully he's just trying things when it's not important. That team is probably the starting 11 which is why I'm surprised we didn't see Moreira starting RB who has looked very good. As I said some pages back, Williams is quality, but will always be beaten in behind and therefore can't be our starting RB.

Of course, you're the one who demanded that the club "gets rid" of MGW.

Many thanks for the summary.

Where did Anderson and Dominguez play when they came on?

On a positive note on Taiwo the timing of his little runs in behind and positions he got into were excellent, it just all fell apart when the ball actually reached him. Needs to get those feet twinkling.
A great example was when he was picked out brilliantly going into the box but turned into trouble. All it needed was one touch and hit it but hopefully it'll come (before he gets injured again 😉)

Dominguez was on the right but was pretty fluid popping up in lot of central positions and in the box. Anderson generally on the left but with a similar amount of fluidity. They both just seemed to cover more ground which allowed some nice neat 1-2’s with Danilo & MGW.
