Pete Martell RIP

Otis Redding

Try A Little Tenderness
Please excuse me for using the forum to pay tribute to someone I've been friends with since the mod days in the sixties, a fellow Sneinton resident and, in the old-fashioned sense, a truly genuine Nottingham character who has very recently passed away. Above all, NFFC ran through Pete's veins and although many on here probably wouldn't have spotted him amongst the crowd at the CG, there's a good chance that you would have heard him at some point or other. Deep condolences to his family. RIP Pete.

That's a lovely tribute to your old friend, and this is a fitting place to post it.
Condolences to you and to Pete's family and friends.

Thanks Gary.
I can guarantee that as far as Pete's dedication to Forest and his attitude towards Derby was concerned, he'd have figured high up on an actual 'ze list'.
Strangely so, Phil Maddoc the actor that played the U-boat commander in that episode of Dad's Army, passed away on this very day back in 2012.

I would hope to be remembered by a friend in such a fashion in the years to come, but somehow I don't think it's going to happen.

He must have been a good bloke and friend to you Otis. All the best to you and his family.

Sorry to hear you news Otis. It sounds like Pete was a good guy and fan.

It's a shame that it's not possible to mix a person's ashes in with the clay to make a brick to go in the centenary wall so that fans are literaly part of the ground and club.

Perhaps not the best time to be doing it though with the talk of a possible move of the stadium.

RIP Pete.

I can't recall discussing the prospects of Forest re-locating with him Nicola, but as an original '60s Trent Ender, he'd most certainly have lamented any move away from Trentside.

Thanks Richard, and I hope that it won't be for many, many years yet, but I'm confident that I speak for everyone else by saying that your contributions to this place won't be forgotten.

Thanks Otis. Pete was my dad. Missing him massively and I fear Forest will never be the same for me again. In fact I know it won't.
