Personal photography at football matches

The subject of taking cameras into UK football stadiums is a bit of a grey area. FA ground regulations state that no devices (other than mobile phones) which are capable of recording images/video are to be brought into, or used at the stadium. However, most stadiums adopt a common sense approach in that they allow you to bring in a compact camera (i.e. anything which isn't professional) and use it at any time other than when the match is in progress (to protect "image rights").

When I visit a new stadium, I like to take photos.

Has anyone on here ever been refused entry to a stadium for carrying a camera, or told that they can't use a camera at any point whilst in the stadium? If so, then which grounds took this hardline approach?

I've never had any problems in taking my camera into the City Ground with me although I've never been questioned or frisked.

Flagman has an impressive big one and can often be seen with it in his hand on match day. ::)

Flagman's can expand or contract depending on excitement levels and who he has spotted in the crowd.

Perhaps the camera is large but I was dissapointed with the size of his flag actually!

Trust me, Flagman's flag is much bigger than many are led to believe.

Does depend upon wind conditions and surroundings I understand.

My dad usually brings a camera with him but has twice been reprimanded for using it by stewards due to the press having exclusive rights to the game or something.

Doesn't stop him though, it's not as though he's attempting to sell the shots the newspapers.

I've taken a video camera into several stadiums and although my footage was deleted from youtube the stewards at the time didn't care or notice. The camera records on to mini dv and is good enough for broadcast on some TV channels.

never had a problem in the A Block however when Flagman asked if someone could take a pic of his flag in all its glory last season I wandered down towards the Trent End (between D & E block I think) and the second I too the camera out my pocket I was jumped on by 2 of the starzi!

Our kid and I once got finger-wagged at by a steward in the mainstand when the camera came out - never had any problems when not pointing the camera pitchward though.

I wasn't allowed into Mao's tomb in Bejing with my camera.

Young Communists were just using that as an excuse.
