Passing of forum member Calvin Plummer

I'm Red Till Dead

TheCatWhisperer - I'm so sorry to hear your bad news. Like those who have commented before me I was a dedicated reader of the opposition fan comments and having looked through opposition fan sites before I was grateful that someone took the time to filter the odd one or two out.
I hope you take the time to read though these comments to see that he was well respected despite occasionally letting his passion run away with him. While ever the opposition fans comments are published I'm sure that people on here will remember Calvin.

Perhaps as a tribute going forward the opposition fan comment threads could bare the "Sponsored By Calvin Plummer" legend as a mark of respect?

My condolences to you, TheCatWhisperer and the other members of his family at this sad time.

RIP Calvin

Whilst I totally agree with the sentiment, wouldn't "In Memory of Calvin Plummer" be more appropriate, as the "sponsored by" tag is used in a much more light hearted way already.

I too would like to express my condolences, and although the baton has now been passed to other forum members for his away fans comments, I hope he will always be remembered as the pioneer of this concept.

RIP Calvin.

Hi everyone,

I’m sorry to interrupt the light-hearted posts here on LTLF. I wanted to share the sad news that the forum member posting as Calvin Plummer died earlier this month. He was my loving partner of 12 years. His death was unexpected and a shock for all his family and friends. Although he hadn’t posted for a while, he used to regularly compile salty comments about Forest from other fan forums. I know he spent a lot of time collecting these comments and I hope everyone enjoyed reading them.

A Forest fan since childhood, he had been a member of this forum since 2009, coincidentally the same year I met him. He couldn’t go to matches very often but took pleasure in contributing to discussions on here. We had talked about one day going to a match together so I’m sad we never got round to taking up that opportunity. I'm not a football fan but would always ask him who Forest was playing and what the score was. I will miss taking an interest in his passions, commiserating with him and celebrating in Forest’s fortunes. I will forever treasure his classic shirt. Only recently he had been looking at treating himself to one of the retro shirts so that he could wear it regularly.

I know he spoke his mind and sometimes got himself blocked from sites (like this one) but he meant no malice, held no grudges and simply liked a good debate. I’m unsure how much of his life he shared with you, but I knew him as a hugely caring, intelligent, insightful, and funny person. I know this forum was important to him and that’s why I wanted to leave a short message for you.

Please tell your nearest and dearest that you love them, and hold them close, because it can all be taken away in an instant xx
Thank you for letting us know and so sorry for your loss. I can’t say anything that will comfort but please know that lots of people loved seeing his opposition fan comment threads pop up on a Monday. It was an asset to the forum he will be sadly missed.

Terrible news, thinking of you and your family at this time.

Calv's post match comments thread has been a Sunday morning staple ever since joining the forum. Having done it from time to time in his absence, I can appreciate the time and effort it took to pool these comments together. He obviously had a wider contribution to the forum and was a valued member who will sorely be missed.

Yes, I thought that as I lay in bed last night. I hadn't had a chance to change it though. I'd just come on to do it now.

This is awful news and I am so sorry for your loss.
I'm sure everyone will agree, Calvins Opposition Fans post has been a highlight of many weekends, whether we won or lost, it always gave us something to look forward to.

He will be sadly missed.

I'll tell you, I don't have much of a social life, over 90% of it is pretty much on here. Sorry to sound soft but, there are people on here I have come to genuinely care about, and always considered how it would hit me if one of them passed away.

With that said, Calvin's opposition fan comments threads were a real highlight of the week for me, and I used to regularly comment on them. This pretty much feels like a friend has passed.

Stay strong, but don't bottle things up, there are many people who care about you, and will support you.

RIP Calvin.
