Our squad vs last year

Rather see Fox, Lichaj cover with a youngster from academy. Waste of a shirt.

To be fair the more I think about it, the less I want him.

I think my attempted fishing with him in other threads has backfired and made myself like him.

The positives are the fact defensively we have added a couple and not lost anyone (hopefully Darlow and Lascelles minds don't wander). Up front we look like we are shifting a lot of deadwood and bringing some youth and pace into the mix. We are even adding some pace and guile in midfield with Burke and Antonio. Majewski loan splits opinion. But I think he had stagnated here.
On the negative we have officially sold some of the Crown Jewels and potential sale of Lansbury would lose us a player who offers us something no one we currently have does. And if reports of £3.5m fee are correct it would be vastly under priced.

On the whole as we stand I believe we are stronger than last season. And with a bit of luck with injuries and the like I think we could be very competitive this season.

Not saying it's the "best" signing per say, but Vaughan's addition will be one of the most key IMO if he can stay fit. He's above this level.

Rest of the squad is just hard to judge now with it being so different! So much depends on how we play and how they gel really. Need at least 4-5 games to get a feel for it. Lost workrate, added blace and, hopefully & more importantly, goals.

I still don't think we'll be promoted, but the squad is looking good. Central midfield concerns me though; we need another signing there. Maybe one plus a loan if Lansbury leaves.

I really feel this is where Pearce will come into his own.

The contacts and players he's been involved with in the past will come into play and really do expect a couple of gems

Like the way we've freshened up the squad and largely got rid of all the deadwood bar likes of Collins, Harding etc but maybe they were being kept while we still had so many defensive injuries. Think the likes of Burke, Fryatt, Mancienne are shrewd, solid signings and likes of Assombalonga, Veldwijk and Antonio are exciting too. Obviously there's been darcelles, but at least keep them for a year, and the possibility of Lansbury going, hopefully not, but apart from that it's been a good window.

We are absolutely streets ahead of where we were last year. All the shit has gone, almost constant proven quality has come in. I'm rock solid erect right now.

I'm pretty certain this type of thread happened last year and exactly the same was said.

'Look, we've signed a Chilean international and QPRs best player!'

Yeah, I think our squad is stronger now to be fair. It's all about injuries. Is our second team any stronger? We'll be trouble if the centre mids are all out again, that's for certain, as would any team.

Pur whole Squad is stronger not just the starting 11. I don't think injuries will impact us a badly as last year

Yep, but I'd sooner have lads like Osborn, Grant etc waiting in the wings than crap like Moussi and Greening as cover.

Good point. I think the 1st Team isnt much better (bar Assombalonga's impact). But the second team is better, last season it was players like Moussi, Greening, Miller or Derbyshire - utter shite.

In the short-term, the squad is clearly much stronger, IMO. The only significant subtraction on the OP's losses list is Guedioura, and he doesn't really count in my mind, as we played most of last season without him anyway.

OUT: A bunch of driftwood
IN: Assombalonga, Fryatt, Veldwijk, Antonio, Burke, Mancienne, Hunt, Laing, Riera.

If we haven't at least made ourselves better in the short-term with that business then we really are clueless. CM is the only area of concern for me, particularly if we lose Lansbury.

We also now have an added incentive to the U21 & U18 players. Not only do they see that they will get chances in the first team, but they now see that academy products being bought by Premier League clubs. I would expect at least one of the youth team(s) to step up this season, in addition to Osborn, Grant and Walker.

I would expect all of them to feature, but only in league cup or when injuries/suspensions kick in.

I'm more interested to see the Tranmere team than Blackpool, that was decided a while back

I guess luck is everything. Keep Hobbs, Cohen, Vaughan, Reid and at least one of Fryatt/Assombalonga fit all season and we'll be there or thereabouts..
