Is everyone operating on a certainty here because of 1 tweet?

He's started 18 league games, probably in top starts. How do we know, after 2 league games and 1 FA game that he's dropped to bottom of the pick list?
Manager wants smaller squad and arguably our best and most consistent midfielders hasn't had a look in since the new manager took over.

It is just speculation, I'm not sure anyone is packing his bags just yet.

Excl. News Orel #Mangala: @juventusfc and @sscnapoli are pushing for him! Interest is concrete. Talks about a transfer in winter Permanent deal. The 25 y/o open to leave Forest now. @SkySportDE

I always tend to take anything from anyone other than the club with a pinch of salt, but if there was a rumour to be believed then this is an example of one.

That’s not to say it’s going to happen or even true, but as an outgoing transfer it makes a lot of sense for various reasons. It also seems more fitting to be talking about this than the whole of the FFP thread since Monday!

No disrespect to the Turkish Super Lig, but that is a rather large step backwards from the Premier League and Bundesliga.

Why not?

He's been very vocal about his desire to reduce the size of the squad.

It makes perfect sense to do that by selling the player of high value who isn't starting.

Not every sale is going to be a popular decision, unfortunately.

Exactly this, if we are to survive without having to constantly sell the family silver, we need to be making profits on the majority of our signings, can’t just let them sit there till their contract has almost vanished.
we are over stocked in midfield, let’s turn a profit on someone and not do too much damage to the best xi.

If we can get decent money for a player who isn't in the manager's plans (whether or not this is specifically the case here) then selling is the right move

And therein lies the problem. Getting decent money. The Brighton and Brentford models work because they sell players for good money, to clubs who pay good money habitually. Juventus and Napoli don't throw the cash around like they used to.

Anything under €25m and it's pointless.

Agreed.

He's a 25 year old current Belgian international who has found his feet in the EPL and now has that experience under his belt.

We should be turning a decent profit on him. If not then loan him out and build his value somewhere or bring him back into the fold of circumstances change.

It's not like he's a dead salary or a declining player.

I know it's just paper talk, but there is mention in today's press of Onana leaving Everton for £60M. He's Mangala's midfield partner for Belgium and for me has been no more impressive for Everton than Mangala has been for us. If (and it's a big if) those deals go throigh at those prices then we've dropped the ball big time.

We pretty much always get decent money on sales.

There has been nothing quoted for a Mangala price other than a bit of guesswork on here. It’ll be fine and players pretty much trade for what they are worth usually. No club ever gets well and truly stung either way.

(Except Man Utd, the wassocks)

Has been 'offered' to numerous clubs according to this.

Further indication that Nuno is happy for him to leave.

Has someone checked in on Strummer to make sure he's ok?

True, but Onana is an absolute unit. Six foot four maybe? That and the fact he’s just turned 22, means he likely has a higher ceiling.

He’d start for Arsenal, Mangala wouldn’t. As he’s wanted by a big club, they pay the big fee.

Juventus spend big. 25m is possible there. Napoli? I’d say we’d be lucky to get 20m. Again, it’s if they see him as a starter.

If he does go, our best deal is cash plus players. 15m plus Illing-Junior would be a cracking deal for us, and I’d say achievable.

Mangala has arguably been our most consistent midfielder this season, but judging Nuno's tactics so far I'm not shocked he has been left out of the team and is potentially available for transfer. The two players in the '2' in the 4231 so far have both been athletic and can get around the pitch, whether is be Sangare/Yates or Yates/Danillo. With the greatest of respect to Mangala, that isn't really his game and something I have always picked up is he is a touch slow. Personally I'd accept that and change my tactics to keep Mangala in there but it doesn't appear to be what Nuno wants, and if we are buying in to Nuno-ball, then get players who he wants.

Personally think Italian football would suit Mangala to a tee and Juve and Napoli are massive clubs with Champions League ambitions, so I can see why Mangala would also be keen.
Ah, this reminds me of when it was essential that we evolved into a modern Recruitment+Coach structure so that we could seamlessly transition between managers without having to overhaul the squad  😁

Working great when your player of the season is the one to be moved on. That's some 4D chess shit right there lol

The lack of usage since the first half at Brighton raised my eyebrows, particularly when he didn't start in the cup.

I'm interested to know what Nuno has seen that he doesn't like about him , if that's the case - perhaps he wants more dynamism in passing? I'm guessing since Sangare and Danilo, who he seems to prefer, have that.

Illing-Junior is playing semi-regularly for Juve and is wanted by Spurs and Villa.

I doubt we would have a chance of getting him on a permanent deal.

But I'd absolutely take 10-15m and him in a swap if that was on the table.

Player of the season who has barely featured under the new manager and didn’t play in our best two performances of the season. It’s a strange one but there is more to the context than just player of the season being moved on.

I think it is debatable he’s player of the season as well BTW

He'd be my leading contender for PotS too so far - I'm not sure what I'm not seeing about his game that's lead to Nuno coming in apparently thinking nope.

Unless it's about wheeling and dealing to balance the squad. (I do think Danilo might be better in that role in the long term and we have Sangare too so...)

Maybe Nuno sees the priority is to bring in new players where we are weak. Maybe we can't afford to do that until we move some players on, especially if they will turn a profit.
