Galatasary interest too, if X can be believed.

Could be new manager doesn't fancy the player.

Could be that changing manager got Mangala looking to move elsewhere.

Could be FFP is gonna bum us and he's one of our more sellable assets.

Etc.

Whatever the crack though, selling your best player of the season during a relegation battle rarely works out well.

Frustrating thing is even if we got 80m for him, there's every chance we'd flush that down the pooper on crap players anyway.

Can't say this enthuses me.

Whatever his merits as a players, Paddy Barndoor isn't going to sign for Forest. The whole flowers for Doughty thing last season was the final nail in the coffin of a long dead relationship.

If they are looking at offers, hope there is a significant upgrade lined up even if in another position, preferably a forward.
I’m sure that Sangare, when back from AFCON, will be the no.1 DM. I don’t necessarily agree with that, but that’s my theory.

That leaves Mangala as back-up for that position. With 2.5 years left on his contract, £20m plus is good business.

The thing with Mangala, is that he hasn’t scored more than one goal a season (ever). Looking at how Nuno plays, I think he wants goals from the midfield. Mangala has an assist or goal once every ten games in the Bundesliga / EPL.

Pablo Maia, who we’ve been linked with previously is one of the best DM’s playing in Brazil. He just turned 22, two days ago. He scored 4 goals this season, has a higher ceiling, would cost half the fee Mangala would likely go for, would be on a 5 year contract, and would have a much higher ceiling / sale potential.

With Dominguez playing the cheeky…I’m a LW, but really a CM position, that leaves us light in the middle.

As we’re unlikely to shift any of the players that are on longer contracts (Dennis / O’Brien) and get minimal fees for those out of contract, then the sale of Mangala and Worrall would finance us for multiple signings:

DM - Sangare / Maia / Kouyate
CM - Danilo / Alcaraz / Yates
AM - MGW

LW - Elanga / Dominguez (cover at LW)
RW - Ngonge / CHO (cover at LW)

Which looks a lot more exciting (goals) than having Mangala as back-up. It also provides much needed interchangeability on the pitch.

I’d be very happy with the above (not forgetting we 💯 need a goalkeeper).

We would still be light at CB and LB (during AFCON) and at CF (until Awoniyi returns), but the sales / signings adds goals to the team, with the focus on those latter positions being left until the summer.

Just think. We're selling Mangala to comply with FFP limits which means that we can keep Harry Arter.

Joking aside my first reaction was this feels lie an FFP play.

We paid ~£10m for him and we've already amortised away a third of that, any £20m+ sale nets us £13m+.

That's more than we'll get for any of our other "FFP sale prospect" players like Worrall.

There's real competition for places in central midfield and none of the other players really suit an FFP enforced sale: You don't want to lose Yates because he's mint, Sangare we're going to have to work with as we'll just take an FFP hit if we sell him, Danilo's got a long contract and still young so potential there, Dominguez is a bit more adaptable with roles and perhaps a better fit for Nuno and Kouyate probably can't command more than a six figure fee at best.

Which leaves Mangala: Good, but not standout, less adaptable than others, and has a decent price tag.

Even if we don't need to make a sale right now, selling Mangala increases our flexibility in the market for future transfer windows, because we're still going to be on the borderline for FFP breaches for the next 2-3 years as we wind-down the c.£250m transfer liability.

Sauce salad?
Well fwiw I've had Nuno not being at all convinced since he hasn't featured from the bench at all or in the cup last weekend.

Simple as the manager saying get rid for me.

Listen, anything over 15m is fantastic business for the club and, along with other sales, should help the club strengthen the side very strategically.

It's all about mid-table...
Mango chutney gets no goals or hardly any assists. Full stop.
Same as Yates on the goal front, Yates has to start fukin scoring. HE HAS TO.

What is coaching and training? What is it FFS? If you've not the "natural" ability then you can get coached to do better, that's why these coach/manage fukkas get paid millions right?? Why has nobody coached Yates to score?

I think there's a massive black hole in this 'coaching malarkey'.

Really showed what he is capable of this season, really cultured midfielder in between both boxes but wouldn't rank high on the vitals, tackles/assists/goals so i can see why Nuno would not take to him (didnt help that he had perhaps his worst 45 mins of the season in that first half v Bournemouth)

Really hope this is one of those too good to turn down offers that gives us wiggle room in the market. But Italian clubs love a scoop and it would usually be a loan with a view to a scoop in the summer in Juves case, Napoli tend to pull the trigger quicker.

He'll thrive but we need the profit (hopefully) and to trim the squad.
