Jose Anigo appointed as Director of Football.
The guy who was questioned again for nefarious transfer dealings just under 2 years ago who we basically distanced ourselves from by a bit of a cop out "Hes not a member of our staff currently".

Have the investigations concluded? I can't imagine that the solution around a changed structure demanded by fans has been satisfactorily answered by appointing a questionable DOF and a manager from 7 years ago.

It will be intersting to hear what @GreeksBearingGifts or @karteo think of this move.

Down 1-0 at HT against OFI Crete. Hwang sat on the bench, Bowler not even making it that far

Not shaping up to be a good season for our Greek half

0-0 vs Carrier Bag and that's the official end of their Europa League campaign. How many signings are Oly going to make ahead of next season? 19? 20?

There's still hope for the Conference League, provided we begin to play football (which is doubtful).

After managing them on Football Manager I see why GBG is pissed with their recruitment.

f*** me the squad is huge, they have about 35 senior players. I have sold 5 midfielders and still have 3 for every position :ROFLMAO:

38 players in total. 13 players left out of the European squad (5 of them brought in after September 2 when we had to register the list with UEFA). Four players in the bomb squad, all of them defenders. We currently pay the contracts of fourteen full-backs (nine in the first team and five in the U23, and in the January transfer window our first priority will have to be two full-backs and the manager has to resort to tricks such as using wingers as full-backs or sticking to a terrible choice as left back simply because no other left back is available. Our current duo in the center of defence consists of two midfielders, one of them 19 years old. We have four strikers, and there is a good chance we will be left with only one after the January transfer window. We have five loanees; out of those five, we would gladly rid ourselves of three, the fourth one is constantly injured, and the fifth one we cannot possibly buy. We paid transfer fees for five players. Our most expensive buy was an attacking midfielder, who can only play as an attacking midfielder; and then we brought in James Rodríguez, an attacking midfielder. Our second most expensive buy will probably be shipped out to the team we bought him from in the summer; for free. Our third most expensive buy was loaned out to Belgium. Our fourth most expensive buy was a young left back who could not play because he did not have a EU passport, and now that he does he is not rated by the manager.

And the list of craziness, surreal incompetence, and total disregard for any shred of football logic could go on, ad nauseam (for those who don't know Latin, it is the feeling we get watching the team this season).

We have been exceptionally poor this season, and tomorrow we play with Panathinaikos, who have 30 points in 10 matches. The club allowed fans in yesterday's training session, and the 5000 who turned up made rather clear to the players the importance of the match, I think.

Do you think in anyway Marcelo and Rodriguez were originally asked about for us rather than yourselves?

Marcelo is a ghost of a player. Visibly overweight, and an ex-athlete in general. He should have retired. James was also unfit, but he's made an effort, his quality and vision is still there, and he's proven much more useful than I originally thought. Neither however was or is even remotely fit for the intensity of the Premier, so I doubt that you were interested. If James continues working hard, he might fancy a return to top-class football next season. Marcelo will probably -or at least should- retire in the summer. Both have signed a one-year contract, with an option for a second season.

Dunno - but it’s obviously a bit bonkers!

Edit: seems like he’s pissed offwith referees, probably not made easier with forest’s match either.

Watch the highlights when they are up Morpeth - the penalty is even worse than the one we got given against us.

I dunno what he’s saying in the video but I assume it’s referee related.

Any translation @GreeksBearingGifts ?

Found a translation, not happy with the refs and basically calling Greek football a mafia 😂

In detail what Vangelis Marinakis said: "First of all, we are very happy about one thing. Because we saw Olympiacos play a very good football in a very difficult game. And also, the whole of Greece saw that our players are the best. When they are focused, they can perform very well and play the best football in Greece. With such performances, Olympiacos can win all games and win the championship.

Beyond that, what has happened from the first minute in today's game is a massacre without precedent. It's one of the biggest massacres in history. And from the first minute. With a rigged referee, by a rigged federation, in which parastatal, organized crime operates. I've said this before, it's really sad, that's why we're going from bad to worse in Greek football.

Since the end of the game we have received thousands of messages of indignation from our fans, who want this circus, what we all see, to stop. How can this be done? By Olympiacos not participating in this charade.

Olympiacos is a very big team and I personally have learned to fight, I have learned the hard way from a young age. I've learned to change situations when they need to change and when they need to change and so far, most of the time, we've been victorious. I believe the same can happen this year.

But, what we're going to do is have a board meeting to just listen to the opinions of both the board members and the people and make a decision. But I tell you again, I am both indignant and saddened by all that we saw today.

But on the other hand, I said this to the players before, I am very happy because we finally see that all these great players can play very, very good football and they can beat any opponent, even the refereeing, because you saw it today, we also beat the refereeing, which was hard-nosed from the first minute and there is not a single person who knows football who has a different opinion. That's all I have to say. Beyond that, I told you, we are winners in the end, as difficult as it may sound.

On the other hand, we have to see how we can move forward. Because when you can't move forward by legal means and when you do what you have to do - which is to play good football, to have the rules of football in place - when all of that is being violated, we too have to decide what we have to do. These are not easy decisions, but whatever. I told you, there will be a Board meeting either tomorrow afternoon or Tuesday morning and we will decide

Vrentzos made a comment as well. He is slightly less diplomatic.

The derby between Panathinaikos and Olympiacos ended in a 1-1 draw. After the end of the game, Yannis Vrentzos, a member of the Board of Directors of Olympiacos FC, used harsh language and said that he is of the opinion that the Reds should withdraw from the league.

"What is clear today and what has emerged is that Greek football is run by a fascist parastate governed by illegality and organised crime. This of course makes sense when in the last three years an illegal regime has been operating within the government in the Maximus building headed by Gregory Demetriades and other clandestine and illegal elements.

Our tolerance of this lawlessness is over. My personal proposal is for Olympiacos to withdraw from the championship and to claim in the courts for the cleansing of Greek football" he said specifically.

It's a bit more complicated, because his overreaction is not only football-related.

As far as football is concerned, it was a strange game. Panathinaikos are very good this season, we are not, and there was a lot pessimism before the game. Strangely enough, we were much the better team, dominated the match, and should have scored at least a couple of goals. We finally managed to score, there were six minutes of overtime, and at 6:25 the ref (who consistently gave everything to the other team) gave the absurd penalty you saw.

But the overreaction also had to do with football backstage and non-football politics. The football federation (who control referees), a hive of thugs for many years, is currently ran by a shady figure, a far-right lawyer who used to be a vice-president of Panathinaikos and who's at open war with the Superleague (the association of clubs in the first division) and EM personally. Finally, there's a political side to EM's fury (who's also visibly had a couple of drinks last night...). EM had firmly supported the right-wing party currently in power. In a major scandal of illegal wire-tapping by the secret service currently uncovered, it turns out EM (along with other media moguls) was one of the targets, so EM is infuriated with the government because he feels betrayed, and lashed out against them as well.

It's all a bit Balkan for my taste.
