The players are experienced and with a fair bit of talent. They were there for the last three games. Time for them to stand up and be counted. It's not about the manager. Get back last seasons resilient spirit; onward and oop the bloody table.

This is going to sound quite negative on my part - but I think we might have over-rated the new players. They have yet to prove they are any better than the players whose places they have taken.
That might be down to settling in or any other number of excuses, but if we're going to progress they need to prove themselves much quicker than they have so far. Over to them.

The big question is: are they showing this in the Trent Navigation tonight?? I'm there for a cigar event but can't miss watching the game!!

I cant see a way of winning without Taiwo. I know that's really quite negative but I just cant see us pulling this one off. Which concerns me about the season in general.

We may just be incredibly lucky this year that there is some really bad teams stinking the league up. Even they are showing a bit more fight though.

Just because a player costs £xm more than one of our existing players certainly doesn't make them x% better.
Remember Diakhaby - we only had him on loan, but he cost his contract-holding club, Huddersfield a reported £12m. He was pants.
Of our recent acquisitions and new loans, compared to players already here:
Odysseus: no better than Hennessey;
Turner: no better than Hennessey;
Montiel: worse than Aurier;
Aina: about the same as Aurier;
Murillo: far superior to any centreback on the books;
Sangare: jury is still out, but for >£35m he simply has a lot to prove;
Dominguez: jury still out - great first few games, then became a nervous wreck - concided with his stupid decision to bleach his hair white;
Hudson-Odoi: Jury still out and the only comparitor would be Brennan, and Brennan was much better;
Origi: jury still out (he was additional, rather than to replace someone);
Eleanga: jury still out.

It is not simple to do the comparison as it is early in the season, but I would put money on last season's first XI to beat this season's first XI, quite comfortably.
I would also put money on Forest to lose tonight, and probably by something to nil.

I’m dreading tonight to be fair, I think it could be an absolute shit show.
I would like to think that Cooper sets the team up to have a good go, and the players respond with a fire-cracker of a performance and take us to our 3rd away win in 26 Premier Leaague travels.
I suspect, whatever Cooper does, the 11 individuals will produce yet another deplorable performance, argue with one another on the pitch, and run for cover when the fukll time whistle blows.
Saturday just had that sense of no one really believing in the game plan, or their team mates.

If this is the case, then we're not gonna win another game til March.

No, because that was a change too far. I'd go back to the back 4 we'd actually played consecutively for more than one game - Aina, Niakhate, Murillo, Toffolo. And the midfield 3 that was working pretty well - Mangala, Sangare, Dominguez. If that's what you meant by something different then I agree with you. Or if you meant up front, then yeah something new there would be good.
Maybe try something bizarre like MGW, CHO and Elanga up front with Murillo?

I'm very aware of this Cap,'n.
However, I was swayed by countless posters who had "seen him play x number of games in the wotsit League and he's just what we need/a big upgrade" or whatever.
Yes: i wasn't having a go, or trying to teach grannie to suck eggs.
No!
My concealed thoughts were that inflation in football is rampant, and a player who cost £10m in summer 2022 would now cost probably £15m now for exactly the same player at the same point in their development.
I didn't actually put that thought in my post, mainly because I am too fast to post without really hinking about what I ought to be posting.

I don't think we're at the point of needing to try something bizarre - things aren't that bad - and Murillo is needed in defence. But I agree otherwise, let's try a lightweight but mobile front 3 of MGW, CHO and Elanga.

Agreed. My concern would be the travelling fans turning on the players if they're putting in under par performances again. It could get toxic.

You should have just put "Elanga: Jury still out" at the top so I didn't have to read it all.

Or Hudson-Odoi and Elanga playing down the flanks, with Gibbs-White back in his No 10 role?

You would have missed the brilliance of my line by line analysis.
Worse, the time you spent reading might have been used for less socially acceptable reasons like mainlining on the streets of the Gorbals, or glue-sniffing under the Kincardine bridge (not the wet bit, naturally).
