Ah, those memories of the days when you could, on the spur of the moment, decide to go to a match and just turn up at the turnstiles. Rather than plan for months, join a secret society in order to qualify for the hope of getting a ticket, then, when you get that sacred ticket, you find the day and time has been changed and you can't go.

Life is tough these days.
Always asked the question whether being a big fish in the championship rather then a minnow would it really be worth it, will we ever experience anymore then midtable in the EPL?1

With no Awoniyi and Wood totally ineffective, there are still plenty of options, just need to think outside the box and take a leaf out of Pep's handbook.

Option 1: Back 4 plus midfield of Mangala/Dominguez/Sangare and MGW, Elanga and Origi.

Option 2: As Option 1, but Danilo for Origi. He makes enough runs for it to work as a CF.

Option 3: As option 1, but replace Origi with CHO. MGW as false 9 making runs from midfield, he scored plenty for Sheff U like this in his time there.

Option 4: Back 4, Murillo at the base of the midfield as a CDM, with Dominguez/Sangare plus front 3 of either option 1 or 3.

The squad has plenty of forward talent, just need to be more creative in the formations.

I'd go for this:

Turner

Felipe Niakhate Murillo
Aina Dominguez Mangala Sangare Williams
MGW
Elanga

Subs: Vlachula, Worrall, Aurier, Toffolo, CHO, Danilo, Yates, Origi, Wood

No Origi or Wood from the off. I'd rather put Danilo or Murillo up top.

I’m not sure MGW and Elanga up front is much different to MGW and Johno. None of them are proper strikers. I remember this little phase building a nice head of steam though.

Interestingly whilst we are quite clearly poor for form at the moment, Fulham, Wolves and Spurs aren’t much better.

We’ve got to pick up some points in this next three.

They're in better form than we are. Can't see where our goals will come from. Willian always hurts us. We lose.

Vlad / Turner

Aina Niakhate Murillo Toff

Sangare Mangala

Elanga MGW CHO

Wood

Enough to beat Fulham imo

Or could swap out Dominguez for Wood for 3 in midfield and have MGW behind Elanga and CHO

He's got to try something different tonight surely?

This team needs some energy, would probably prefer Neco out wide and Elanga through the middle than MGW, or have MGW out wide. He's a number 10, end of story.

God knows, just don't lose ffs

I think we've had enough of trying something different every game. I'd rather see some continuity, especially in defence.

Same formation and players as Everton then, cant wait.

I think thats probably more likely to happen though in fairness.

No, because that was a change too far. I'd go back to the back 4 we'd actually played consecutively for more than one game - Aina, Niakhate, Murillo, Toffolo. And the midfield 3 that was working pretty well - Mangala, Sangare, Dominguez. If that's what you meant by something different then I agree with you. Or if you meant up front, then yeah something new there would be good.

Why did Dominguez get dropped anyway? I don't recall.

He came off at half time at West Ham after a poor half, but had apparently been ill. I thought he was ok against Brighton, but some thought he was poor again, so presumably he was just dropped. Though maybe he was just still recovering from a virus or whatever. He's been very good generally, hope he's back tonight.

His form had dipped or trying something different, depending on your point of view.

It’s not like any of our ‘best’ players can have too many complaints about being dropped when the results have been poor.

We've certainly missed his energy in the middle of the park.

Think I might watch Stuttgart v Dortmund in the Cup.

This thread is depressing.
