Bailey v Niakhete when youve got Toffolo??

Wasnt just me that missed Tavares either, CHO was totally anonymos.
Wasn't agreeing with the decision. But it's not as though Moussa had never played full back.

Suggestions that Moussa is better equipped to deal with Villa's aerial threat.

Moussa did also clear one off the line though, so a little credit due.

Nuno doesn't appear to be a Toffolo fan. Shame, I thought he'd come back really well.

I think we should be questioning the players more so the Manager. It’s the individual school boy mistakes that are costing us points, not the defensive structures etc.

The players need to take a good hard look at themselves
This is absolutely spot on. NES has had little chance to mold this team with players he has brought in. The stupid mistakes we keep making has nothing to do with him. It's completely on the individual players.

The Nuno Espirito Santo Rolling Scorecard 23/24 edition

Aston Villa 4-2 Forest

A poor performance after the previous showing as reality bit hard.

In fairness, not many would have expected much from this one, but the manner of defeat was exceptionally disappointing. From the beginning, Forest failed to shut down space, track runners or properly mark and the game was done and dusted by the break, despite the late goal.

Another fine goal briefly suggested the possibility of ill-deserved parity, but this effort was again undermined by the same failings. A certain level of inconsistency is usually expected of younger squads like ours, but examples like this surely serve as a mark against some players being regularly able to produce at the required level.

Nuno cards a bogey to fall back to +1 par on The Rolling Scorecard.

Trend (last 6 games): l, L, d, L, W, l.

I am not so confident.

I think the points deduction - and I’m sure there will be one - will be harsh enough to drop Forest into the bottom three, come the end of the season.
I think the size of the deduction will determine whether we go down or not.

We are good enough to stay up on points but perhaps not far enough to withstand a 6 or 10 point deduction

Tonight was a pretty bad night at the office for Nuno. The lack of subs killed us when we clearly had no momentum and a half cooked Big T completely out his feet yet he decides to wait until United score in the 88th minute to bring on 3 subs.

Dare i say the Big Man won't be happy about that
We should have switched earlier (Dominguez) but can't moan about not bringing on a striker when we don't have another.

We had the kid, and tbf i'd like to see more of him, but then Nuno sees him in training.

Kid or no kid it was clear our striker was barely functioning. Meanwhile Yatesy was completely done and Danilo disappeared by the 65th min. If his plan was to get to extra time and reassess then he would have inevitably had to bring the kid on. Poor.

While done, I think Awoniyi was kept on because he would be most likely to convert if something fell his way. The kid is just that.

I can totally see the logic in keeping Awoniyi on to get minutes in his legs. I can even say fair play to saving Dom for the Liverpool match.

But I am slightly bemused at not injecting some energy into the side earlier. It was pretty obvious we needed fresh legs.

I can see the benefit in keeping Taiwo on to get minutes into his legs but it was clear after at the latest 75-80 mins he was totally shot and needed subbing

I don't think he's improved us a great deal and has played a big part in our last two defeats imo. I know it's not his fault he is not Steve Cooper, but it's time for him to start delivering because finishing 16/17th before deductions wasn't the reason we appointed him because I'm sure it's something Coops would have managed anyway

Playing full strength teams in the cup and struggling hasn't helped either.

Following Blackpool we coughed up a loss to a shit Brentford. Visibly tired for most of second half.

Following Bristol city away we played Arsenal and barely touched the ball.

Following Bristol City at home we played Newcastle and were outclassed by a team who'd not won in ages.

Our league position is at serious threat. What the f*** are we playing at dicking about in a completely irrelevant cup competition when it's quite clear it's not helping build any momentum.

Pretty pleased we're out to be honest. Force us to fully concentrate on the league.

He’s just changed the way we inevitably lose.

Still the same outcome. I’m back to anticipating losing every game due to how weak we are at defending. A team regularly conceding 2-4 goals won’t progress, and I see no sign of NES changing or adapting to solve this issue. We’ll concede 3+ to Liverpool this weekend, and there’ll be more excuses why that’s ok.

We might scrape to 35 points before deductions, but this is a complete failure of a season from all aspects of the club, a significant step back.

We’re out of time. Out of time to be talking about set pieces. Out of time to be losing to Brentford and the like. That’s not what we lost Steve for.

I think the all important judgement for Nuno is, does he stick with what we're doing currently, can he make it work and if not, how quickly can he change it and how effective can that change be?

Make no mistake, we had chances against United and were in the game, been in a few of the games we've lost but Villa and Newcastle were great examples. We had a spell either side of half time in those games where we looked dangerous but because of defensive frailties, we left ourselves with too much work to do, not just to win but to get back equal.

I think Cooper had it right at the end of last season and start of this, where we would just sit back, keep it tight and then hit teams on the counter. That requires the defence and midfielders to shut up shop though. We don't really concede through open play that much, but set pieces are this season's away record. That HAS to be address. You can park the bus, but you are going to give away corners and free kicks around your box and you have to be able to defend them. You also have to be able to use them when it's your turn to take them too.

I'd f*** Nuno off in the summer, regardless of what happens if I'm honest. Having had a couple months, it was the only decision we could make to sack Steve but I don't see Nuno as being someone that is going to advance us beyond where Steve had us. I also don't think he fancies the Championship if we go down.

I know it's only been two months, I just don't think see it being a long term thing with him at the helm.

I’m still a fan of Nuno, think he’s got us playing better. Far more structured and with more attacking intent.

He fell asleep at the wheel last night for me. Should have made 3 changes after the hour mark. Utd we’re there for the taking, we let them away.

Couple of significant short falls in the squad need to be addressed. After that, he’d have us very decent on a consistent basis.

2 bad games in a row for Nuno - like most have said, think he could have made changes early and been a bit more proactive, certainly shouldn’t have kept Awoniyi on for that long. Understand that he wants him to get minutes and there probably wasn’t a ‘like for like’ substitution, but he was done after 70 minutes.

I like Nuno, but I feel that he’s got to start delivering some consistent positive results soon. We’ve been pretty average since Christmas, only 1 win, took over 400 minutes to get past lower league opposition in the cup and we keep making the same mistakes in matches.

I do think Nuno has made us look more positive going forward, but the defensive frailties that existed under Cooper are still here. Cooper had got into a death spiral run of games and as much as I love him, his sacking seemed inevitable. However, it’s definitely a fair question to ask whether there’s been significant improvement with this team under Nuno.

Nuno is an extremely likeable character, so I’m hoping he can get things going for us.

Think you might have won the award for being the first to call for his head, 2 months in advance!

I think we all pretty much noticed that the side were struggling by 65 mins. I mentioned it in the matchday thread and I've seen a few others this morning. If we all saw it then it begs the question why Nuno didn't. It corresponded with the same time Utd started to control the game.

It needed Dominguez, Reyna and Ribiero to come on to get a foot on the ball and to freshen things up. Not just for this game but with an eye on Saturday

Nunos used to rocking a 50% win percentage, the pain is clear to see as the 20 odd % he's got here shows little sign of improving.

Tough gig, we're slightly more eyecatching, but more susceptible to mistakes, particularly at set pieces. Ultimately we're no further forward.

Doesnt strike me as a bloke who's gonna stick around in the trenches to take a career hit. Just a hunch.

We’ve just lost a cup game 1-0 to Manchester United and I'm reading people say we should sack Nuno in summer ffs.

Higher win percentage than Cooper this season and scores more goals per game? Not good enough for Nottingham Forest apparently.
