NFFC Squad - End-Of-Year Marks

Slightly off-tangent, have you heard the stick he's been getting at Sheff U? "negative Nigel" has been coming in for some right slating from fans for his negative approach to games.

They're 5th in the league and progressing every year. Unreal.
On the plus side, Non-League Nigel shows we're much better at alliterating than the Sheffield United fans.

Sheff Utd fans should be lucky they're not in Coventry's position. Nige dragged them away from that.

Darlow - 6 - Inconsistent this season. Some truly great saves and then flapping at crosses seconds later.
De Vries - 5 - Won't make the great saves Darlow does but steady enough.
Lichaj - 8 - One of the few that has got better as the season went on.
Kane - 6 - Excited about signing him but hasn't played that much.
Mancienne - 7 - Not a midfield player, not sure he's a fullback and at times against no nonsense strikers has struggled. But when paired with Hobbs looks good.
Hobbs - 7 - When he plays usually we are strong at the back.......not that recent results suggest that.
Lascelles - 6 - A very decent defender in the making. Sadly not with us.
Wilson - 5 - I've never been convinced by Wilson. Thinks he's Bobby Moore......but he isn't. Would do well to talk to Des Walker about defending.
Collins - 6 - Helped stop the rot but past his best.
Fox - 4 - I don't think he knows we play in red.......too many wayward passes. I'd let him go.

Antonio - 9 - Our player of the season. A constant danger and always likely to score. A great signing. Please keep him Fawaz.
Burke - 7 - started and finished the season well......but dipped like most of the team did in the middle.
Paterson - 2 - One of our best players last season.....rubbish this. I've no idea why. Hopefully he can be turned around.
Osborn - 8 - Great progress made this season and will hopefully be one of our key players over the next few years. Lively & energetic. Words you don't always associate with our players.
Lansbury - 7 - If only he could be more consistent.......but if he was he'd be in the Premiership. On his day one of our 2 best players.
Gardner - 8 - Best loan signing in years. Just what we need in midfield.

Fryatt - 5 - Too many injuries have taken their toll.
Assombalonga - 7 - started well. I'm not convinced we should have spent so much on one player. Sadly it's academic as we won't see him in a Forest shifter a long time.
Blackstock - 7 - I thought Dexter was finished but he has been reborn and that's great news.
Walker - 6 - The goal at Brentford suggest we might have a special player here....let's hope.
Cohen - 5 - started the season so well........and then the curse struck. How we have missed his energy. I hope & pray he plays for us again.
Reid - 5 - like Cohen started the season well.......we are a better team when he plays....
Veldwijk - 3 - very disappointing. I thought Dutch players were technically good.....this one isn't
Akpom - 6 - If only we could have him till Assambolonga is fit..
Vaughan - 5 - Not the player he was but given our likely injuries next season he will be needed.

Well, they were the same position in League One in the 12/13 season, regressed to 7th last year and only now have bounced back to 5th but still not as good as they were in 12/13.

Frankly, for a club of their size anywhere outside of the top 4 in that league is a disappointment.

Do you think Fawaz will see that? Or do you think he'd see a quick 20m?

It's not about "gaining a window", it's about clearing the debt. IMO and looking back at past sales, Fawaz will snap up any big money offers in a flash. We'll see.

hes already put in 50 mil ish of his own money, why would he give a f*** about a "quick 20 mil"? unless he was scarpering and recouping as much of his money as possible? ( he isnt ) there would be no point in it, because he'll end up putting that money back into the club anyway

You do realize you do this with everything? Dude, you've had something happen to you in your life which gives you one f**ked up, overly negative perspective on everything. If you sort that out you'll be a lot happier.

Because before he believed we's be promoted with that investment, and he also didn't have FFP to worry about.

Like I've said, we'll see.

Not at all, i'm a perfectly happy and content person. I'm purely just responding to your point that they're progressing every year when they're not. His first year saw them finish lower and the second year a slight improvement but still not as good as the year before he arrived. Manchester United have progressed this year, but it's still not good enough for a club of their size. Sheffield United are the League One equivalent.

Facts remain that Clough managed Derby for ages and floundered. They're not a strong, formidable team and they have been since the day Clough left. He's like Pearce in that he can spot talent and build a strong squad but he doesn't know how to get the best out of them. We've sacked a Pearce already, I don't want to sack a Clough too.

If disagreeing with you with facts is seen in your own eyes as a 'f**ked up, overly negative' opinion then I fear for you in the real world.

No one in the history of human kind has ever been "a perfectly happy and content person", therefore you lie to yourself too.

Club size has little to do with it. Clough's done a decent job at Sheff U, and Sheff U aren't a club who can attract many managers better. Not only that, but his football is still better than Warnock's.

Keep telling yourself that, I like my life.

He's done a mediocre job. With the money they've spent and the squad they have they ought to be promoted from that league. They're floundering worse than we were down there. Good football ultimately counts for nothing if you're not going up.

It's all about mid-table...
Nigel Clough will do a decent job anywhere and I mean ANYWHERE. He knows football, he's played at the highest level and learned from a Master.

How has this gone from Sheffield United to how content we are with our lives in the space of about 3 posts

Nigel Clough has had one full season in charge at Sheff Utd. They're 5th, will make the playoffs, and were a whisker away from making the League Cup final.

When he took over in October 2013 they were in the relegation zone and he managed to finish 7th in the end. Just outside the playoffs.

He's bought really well too, which is something him and Pearce have a knack for. Spotting a player. Brayford, Done, etc.

Some fans just never appreciate what they have. Sack him and they might end up with Gary Megson. Like ourselves, they'll deserve everything they wish for.

I'm sure you could go through most manager's signings and say they can 'spot a player', but an awful lot of managers seem to work on the principal that if you throw enough sh*t at the wall, some of it might stick. I would say that was certainly the case at Derby, where he bought about 6 players every season, at least.

You could certainly say that Dougie has a history of bringing in good players, by listing just 2 - Glenn Murray, Jedinak etc.

He did that to help with wages and address in-fighting though. Now that's a fair reason to ask "is he a good man-manager?", like Pearce the "put in or do one" attitude is apparent, whereas other managers may have unified and got better from the squad.

But either way, anyone who think he's done a bad job at Sheff U, or that they'd get better, is crackers. I don't rate Nigel particularly, but credit where credit's due.

It does look like NC is doing a good job there, but I agree with UndisclosedFee regarding his recruitment policy at Derby. Their turnover over players was huge when he was there. His approach was similar to Chelsea's - if you buy up enough decent young lower league players some of them will be gems.

So did Pearce, Keane etc. didnt seem to do them much good, Clough Jr isnt a patch on his dad, Sheffield united have one of, if not the biggest budget in their league, playoffs should be the MINIMUM they get

Man management skills? Ask Tomasz Cywka!

Credit for what exactly? His first season saw them finishing lower than they had the year before, his second season the same. They've not got any particular financial issues, they've got the largest home support and they've spent the most in the league by a good distance. He's not doing an appalling job, but it's hard to say he's doing anything other than mediocre - as he has in every job he's ever had.

Veldwijk - 4 - Not the ideal first season, but it was never going to be. Name one player to make a jump in level like he has and hit the ground running s

In a Robbie-Savage-what-just-happened-yesterday-is-the-only-thing-that-has-ever-happened style, I'm posting 'Andre Gray' in as many threads as possible this morning. In the Conference with Luton last season, England C striker. 17 Championship goals this season.

so..Andre Gray... I think is probably the best answer to this.

No quite sure why the Clough discussion started but, if we had Clough on board, we would kiss goodbye to Antonio, Britt, Wilson, Lichaj, Majewski, Lansbury and Paterson for starters. Each would be replaced by an ex-sheep.
