Nations League

I often wonder why it is that as nation we so often choose the safe option and we distrust flair and style in favour of the dour and dependable that'll can only take you so far.... I mean we have players like Foden and Grealish and instead of giving them licence create we stifle them hence they are a shadow of the players they are for their club sides. Its a travesty how many fine players we've neutered over the years.

I know it sounds like a huge generalisation but you can look at so many of our sports and see how when we do sometimes manage to be novel and forward looking its invariably stifled, honourable exception being Cycling which is the exception that proves the rule.

This applies to the manager as well as the players

One thing I have never understood with England is the playstyle is almost the opposite of what the Premier League is all about.

Intensity, pace and physicality is the Premier League yet England have played a slow, laboured passing style for years and years now.

I have said for years England should get Bielsa as manager, his spell at Leeds has made me want him even more. But as said above, he isn't boring enough for the FA.

Brennan just absolutely skinned Frenkie De Jong, De Ligt & De Vrij and almost scored from it.

The boy is ready for the Prem.

I just gave up on England; that turgid passing backwards at every opportunity is doing my head in.

Walker runs forty yards up the pitch, stops and passes the ball back twenty yards. What's the point.

The Hungarians attack with pace, in numbers and always looking forwards, at the opposition goal, not their own.

Not going well for the Italians.

Can see why Donnarumma has spent most of the season on his arse at PSG.

Gnonto! (Whoever he is). The comeback starts here!

Also, just seen the next game is against England at the San Siro. So that’ll be nice to see a load of England fans in the city.

First time conceding >5 goals since 1957 and only managed 1 shot on target is ridiculous really. Pressure on Mancini keeps growing, despite the support of a few journalists he really is running out of time. And Donnarumma shows again why he isn't given a game at club level

John Stones is so bang average. The only excuse for this I can think of is Southgate is experimenting. If he isn’t and isn’t treating this like a friendly than it’s a massively poor management feck up.

hahahah just don't even get on the plane to Qatar, England. Save urself from embarrassment losing to Wales and the US. This is getting a bit ridiculous, keep defending Southgate, Simon Jordan, you sick freak.

In his defence, the teams he’s played throughout this spell of fixtures is missing almost all of the first team. Tonight it’s only Barella, Gigio and perhaps Calabria who would trouble the selectors normally.

They won’t sack Southgate as he’s a media darling. Surely will be gone when we bomb out in Qatar though.

The comparisons with Hughton really are apt.

Not sure the booing and chanting at Southgate is necessary. This time last year (almost) he was the best thing since sliced bread.

I'm willing to treat this game as a one off and the last few weeks as a blip.

The players are probably knackered after the intensity of a full PL season and then have had to play 4 glorified friendlies, they're probably knackered and I'm sure the last thing they wanted was to play the Nations League in June.

I'm sure we'll be a completely different outfit in November.
