Murillo Santiago Costa dos Santos

This lad looks as wide as he is tall. Apprently Murillo derives from the Latin name for wall, which seems apt.

Anyway, I'd go for Beraldo (Sao Paolo) if we're after a Brazilian LCB
I love a comparison so I’ll say he reminded me at first watch of Kompany.

The South American market seems to be the only one where players aren't getting hijacked by Saudi clubs, may as well cut out the middle men & get them direct (and cheaper). It's Chelsea we have to worry about now, they have already nicked 2 that we have been linked with from South America.

God knows what their plan is with all these players.

Saudi Arabia could easily become a destination for the young South American talent that would previously have ended up in places like Russia or Ukraine.

You'd like to think the best would still end up in Europe, but it's difficult to put ourselves in the minds of potential street/shanty town kids when spending a few years there could raise their entire family from proverty.

This seems a hell of a gamble and a huge price for a young lad with less than 30 first team appearances. Especially in comparison to Ibanez at only a slightly higher price point if we go up to €20m.

Think it puts a huge weight of expectation on him to improve others around him like Worrall and McKenna too.

Personally I'd rather see us splash out a bit more on someone with more pedigree and experience, but let's see...

I'd say it's because they're trying to buy viewership, noone will tune in to watch a random young lad from Brazil (except south Americans, but time zones...), So if they buy all of Europe's best then the hope is we will watch it....

News flash we won't.

Agreed, this would be a risky move. There are a few younger players in English football we should be looking at if we have 15/20mil to roll the dice with.

Funny one with this guy - on the one hand he has very limited experience, on the other he clearly has the attributes at a young age and has apparently been their standout. The gamble seems that if he adapts well and continues to progress we'd have someone at a level higher than we can usually attract.

I'm game for this type of signing, though it's reliant on Cooper using him (young center backs=mistakes) and the Bade thing is fresh in the memory. Still, he wasn't ours so there's that.

Same was said about Danilo. We must have some data modelling that suggests we can get these kids off the ground very quickly

Very true about the Danilo comparison, though the position makes it a little higher risk I think. That said we all thought Danilo was coming in at the base of midfield so who knows?!

Edit: agree with the other point though, and all signings are a risk.

I’m struggling with this one. There was a Brazilian called Murillo that joined our Sunday League team about 10 years ago, looked a bit unfit but had some flashy touches on the ball at 5 a side training. Brought him on as a sub in a match at hackney Marshes and he was a total waste of space. Seem to remember him refusing to play once cos it was raining so hard.
So sorry, it’s a no from me, cos I just can’t separate the 2 Murillo’s in my head.

Is this the way to hammer Murillo?
Every night I've been hugging my pillow.
