I have tidied up this thread a bit, after a rather insensitive and frankly extremely poorly-taste joke was raised about a recent news event.

There are some things that are not funny, OK?

Anyway, as you were.

No, if his Royal Highness enjoys getting pegged on a regular basis, there is absolutely no problem with that.

The posts in question were rather crass and insensitive, even for this forum, and several members reported them, so I got the dustpan and brush out.

On the MGW convo - rather than the the last 4 pages - what would we rather (assuming identical salary):

Garner: £20m
MGW: £30m

Assuming we have signed Mangala aswell.
I'd lean towards MGW maybe, but it depends who else is arriving.

I'm thinking Garner is more likely to be gettable at a future date for one thing (although it's not impossible MGW's career stalls a bit if he stays at Wolves but finds himself on the fringes I suppose, and then they might take a little less than they'd ask for now).

I'd be delighted to see something like this to finish the window (preferably ASAP though, ideally all in before the start of the season):
Two from James Garner, Harry Winks, Aaron Ramsey, James McAtee
Two from Amadou Onana, Morgan Gibbs-White, Dani Ceballos, Roland Sallai
Two from Maxwell Cornet, Emmanuel Dennis, Timo Werner, Alvaro Morata

Some of those might be not achievable but you never know (Chelsea's asking price was £33m for Werner I believe for example). Some would only be achievable on loan with a good wage possibly, but anyway....

Assuming an absolute maximum £60m left to spend up front (higher end of any estimate I would guess), my choice would probably be Ramsey on a free, McAtee on loan, Gibbs-White (at least £25m probably), Sallai (a little under £20m I'd have thought might get it done), Cornet for his release clause fee if necessary and Morata on loan.

I think then we'd have a squad that could play some very watchable football, but also that IMO would be more likely to finish in the top half than bottom half probably.

Anywhere close to that, in terms of the balance of players, would complete an excellent window anyway I'd say.

But yeah Garner, if he stays at Man Utd for a few months, or goes on loan to a Premier League or Championship club, might still be available another time. Ramsey could be the stop-gap in that respect, given we have O'Brien and Mangala too anyway, so Ramsey could be used relatively sparingly, at the most opportune moments, to help unlock defences and control games.

McAtee is maybe now the one I'd like the most all of a sudden (even though it seems like it has to be a loan, and testing Man City on that with a big bid might be somewhat risky, even if I think he seems a really excellent prospect). Maybe he can even slot in alongside Yates like Garner did himself, but I'd be thinking he's more for a number 10 type role. I don't know whether depending on what players do still come in Cooper could be open to going to a back 4 though (according to the line-up it seemed like against Notts County we had more like a 4-3-3 - maybe because the Under-23 team plays that kind of system more than because he's planning it for the first team though?). Given 5 subs a game, plus injuries/fitness issues etc I think having a good selection of attacking midfield options would be a good idea anyway. Given Scarpa might even come in January (although I almost feel like if he agrees then letting Olympiacos have him, regardless of the CL situation might be the best call for this season at least!), and Aguilera is a number 10 then it at least seems in mind for the future anyway to play something like 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-1-3. There's no reason to believe Sallai is a target but as well as playing for example left side attacking midfielder, I think he could also play on the right of a midfield 3 in a 4-3-2-1 or something (potentially with O'Brien on the left side of the 3 for example) at times, plus having mentioned him early in the window I might as well stick with it - we've bought enough other Bundesliga players from 'small-ish' clubs!

Imagine, this morning, some poor Royal Courtier has got to explain pegging to Her Majesty the Queen.

Please, her Majesty's been around the block.

She raised Prince Andrew, after all.

Nowadays her majesty’s threshold is far lower. As long as her family aren’t shagging kids or ethnic minorities all is good!

Whenever Morgan Gibbs-White is mentioned, I can't help but wonder why his name is actually three Surnames.

Reading this forum and the music that is sometimes mentioned.

Makes me feel how I'm sure my parents felt when Rock 'n' Roll burst onto an unsuspecting world.

Radiohead? Kid A, Amnesiac? It's my Heartbreak Hotel moment!
