I'm a big MGW fan, but when you look at the calibre of players being signed for similar/lower fees it's hard to deny we've massively overpaid
For a club in our position it's a big risk however you look at it, let's just hope he continues developing on his current trajectory and proves his worth so we don't find ourselves looking back on this with regret

Do not worry about the fee. If overpaying by £10m means that Cooper is happy and he signs a new contract then it's worth every penny.

The Twitter poster mentioned the Maupay purchase might be off now (maybe because MGW can play up front in a 2 and Aouar wouldn't have done that?).
That'll save £15m. Not signing Djibril Sow (cos he wanted to stay at Eintracht for now and play in the CL) saves another £20m ish. I kind of hope we don't go through with Odriozola (and go for a loan of a wing-back possibly instead) which seemingly would save another £15m.
I think we went back from Plan B to Plan A probably basically. I wonder if Forest and Lyon were in on it together lol (rather than one using the other), although Wolves haven't really backed down much at all - could have hurried them up though, since they've made expensive new signings and might have been secretly counting on selling MGW for as much as Forest would pay.
I do think with MGW being more versatile than Aouar it might be easier to see him in the same team as Aguilera or Scarpa potentially in the future. Also in the same team as Lingard now (at least on the pitch together for some of some games) even if not switching to a 4-2-3-1 or something different to how we've set up so far.
The basic fee does look a good £5m over the top from a rational perspective probably at least, but in the grand scheme of things we were going to be paying quite a lot anyway, and he was the original first choice (especially of the manager it seems) and is a home grown player (which in years to come could become a factor even if it's not now, in terms of numbers of them in the squad).

I’m not grumbling at the price at all. Value is not a straight line concept in that he is not twice as good as Awoniyi and Neymar isn’t four times MGW. The whole thing is exponential at this level so if he’s the exact player that Cooper wants then that’s the value that must be paid.
