Keinan will come before the start of the season

Villa need to sell him as they won't use him, we are the only likely party as no Championship side will pay enough for him.
Naaaarch.

Why would we spend anything on Davis now we have Iwoniyi?
Davis will only get a start if the Nigerian is injured or suspended.
Keinan has seen his career to date as being 4th choice at Villa.
He didn’t score enough for us last season, but did make a good contribution.
Whilst we are accessing many millions in the Prem, plus EM has said he will add to those millions, the funds are needed to recruit to positions where we currently have no one.
To spend £5 to £10m on Davis would be nice to have but be a bit wasteful in the first window of the first season in the top flight.

Need alternative options (Davis a good hold up option that Awoniyi is apparently not) and of course strength in depth. I'm not convinced Surridge or Grabban are going to make the step up, at least not immediately in Surridges case, so no other strikers means hoping your front two are always on form and never injured.

I'm equally as unsure about Surridge. Obviously I hope he does step up but I think there are lots of development points in his game. His first touch needs to improve, there were some big games last season towards the end where we had no Grabban or Davis and Surridge just wasn't holding the ball up for us.

I wouldn't be so sure about Surridge. He scored 8 odd goals from January onwards. His finishes are emphatic and would fly past most keepers. Even in the PL.

Really wouldn't write him off. He looks so dedicated as well.
Not concerned about his finishing but don't think he will get the time and space generously granted to him on multiple occasions this year. 40% of his goals came against Swansea who offered us 27 shots on target that day for example.

Our strikers this year need to be more than just poachers like Grabban and Surridge. Need to carry the ball well, hold it up, win headers, create chances.

Surridge certainly isn't the "hold-up" man, but he works harder than any other striker on the books last season, he has pace, he plays some of the most deft passes. his finishing is absolutely clinical.
If we are going to be smash and grab merchants, I could see the front 3 of Surridge, Iwoniyi and Johnson being devastating.
Play Surridge left of centre, and Johnno right of centre, then with 2 flying wingbacks and the big man down the middle we will be instoppable!

Almost 100% certain Awoniyi being lined up to play left forward.

Morgan Gibbs White if we conclude that will play on the middle behind the two strikers (with Brennan on the right).

Surridge and Grabban currently the back up striker options.

I think you are doing Surridge a slight disservice Rob, I think his movement off the ball and his ability to carry it forward are being underrated. Not sure how many assists he got, but I remember him quite a few times running in to the channels and putting the ball where it needs to be (the cross for Brennan in the second leg springs to mind).

I’d love to have Davis back and think we could do with a striker who doesn’t play on the last man, like all our current ones do.

I’m not sure we have the funds to pay more than single figures (in the millions obv hah) for one though

i’m more worried about having grabban as second backup tbh. rather get in davis at the end of the window just to make sure we have enough fire power.

Yeah I think we will see another striker added at the end. I think they are willing to spend on the key starters they want now and will pick up value later in the window for the bench/competition

Davis is worth the 5-8m even as a sub to hold the ball up in the last 10 mins or carry it up the pitch.

Every point is vital in this league, even if he only wins us 3-5 points over a season with his hold up play / carrying the ball forward then he has paid for himself.

We seem to target players that excell in specific areas and adapt the system to get the best out of that. We have nobody that can hold onto the ball like Keinan as things stand. If we don't get him then we will need another hold up man anyway.

I think having Davis would be a huge benefit to us.

Awoniyi could play 70mins and terrorise defences, then Davis for final 20, or both could be on pitch if required. A defenders nightmare!

With 5 subs we would realistically bringing 2 strikers on now ala Surridge/Grabban change we made throughout last season.

Davis & Surridge are two superb players that can come off the bench and you can rely on them to make an impact.

I'm in the camp that think surridge has a role to play next season. Great vision, tireless work ethic, gets in those positions and can pick a pass. His finishing is top drawer and his goals per min after he joined was insane.

I like Surridge, but his lack of ability to hold the ball up could be a killer in the Premier League. He has a role to play but I think we definitely need Davis (or someone like him) to do that. Davis looked a level above our other forwards last season.

I know what people are saying about his hold up play but write off Surridge at your peril. I think he will suprise a few. He averaged almost a goal every 110 minutes for us last season and probably should have got one or two more.

At the end of the day football is about goals and he has a knack of getting them.

His hold up play isn't perfect but he runs channels very very well, look at how many times he & Brennan caused Sheff Utd problems in the playoffs alone. He's deceptively quick for his size as well. You can't buy the killer instinct he seems to have.

But I do agree we need Keinan to compliment both him & Taiwo in my opinion.

(Getting a bit off track MGW lol!)

IMO I don't think Surridge is/will be used for holding the ball up, he is a great outlet when we are counter attacking, and has a great eye for goal. He's quite well rounded and direct, which suits our style.

Surridge was asked to lead the line more often than not due to the injuries we had within the squad. I think he's a great 20/30 minute player and will no doubt be an assest in Prem.

Yep. I’d expect to see developments late on in the window. Given his involvement last season, there’s not so much of a pressing need for Cooper to get him in early and bring him up to speed in pre-season on how he wants him to play in our system etc
