Money isn't always the answer!

This is EXACTLY what I was talking about when rumors came up that the Chinese were gonna buy us. Rather we do it this way than how City and Chelsea have done it. Dumping wads of cash and buying up every loose player like City did removes the competitive element of the game and reduces it down to who can find the richest foreign oil tycoon to buy a stake in their team. Granted, we're not exactly in the same financial league as Spurs, but 'Arry has it right on this one and their ineveitable Champions League finish will be all the sweeter knowing it was done with grit and cunning istead of cash and greed.

I know I'll catch flack for saying it, but I'd rather we get relegated for bad descision making in a time of multiple coaches and scant money for players than be promoted by a massive influx of cash from some outside source looking for a payday and the ability to tell his rich buddies about that football team he owns.

Spurs have spent a fortune though, over the years.

Harry has brought success, and constantly moans he wants more money.

Who doesn't moan that they want more money? Part of being a coach I would think. Fact is, he's been builidng since '08 and isn't willing to part with players he knows he needs (i.e. Modric). I'm not so naiive to think money plays no role, but there's a right way and a wrong way to do it. Spurs have done it right, City has bought up players and paid them 100k a week to sit on the bench. Hell, half their team is out on loan the have so many extra players.

Yeah totay agree. But your original post implies spurs have done it on the cheap- when they have particuarly when harry first went there- spent more than most teams in the league. Outside of probably man city and chelsea.

I guess it seemed that way. I had hoped to temper that impression by saying we're not in the same financial league as them, but you're right, they're rich as well and Levy is willing to open up the pocketbook when needed, but even in the last trasfer window the pretty much proverbially shrugged and said "we're good, we'll stick with this lineup". I've even read that City is calling for MORE players this month to solidify their title chances. Christ almighty, why not just buy everyone and eliminate any competition at all. It's gotten ridiculous for sure.

City have apparently got 63 professional players.

And amongst those, ridiculous ones like Wayne Bridge, who is apparently picking up £90k a week to sit in the stands.

Nice work if you can get it!

I wonder if an MLS/NFL style salary cap would ever work here?
