I've also just read that Everton are in pole position for him. Haven't heard of Chelsea's interest before now. Just have to see where it lands.

It would be a shame to not get him, looks to be the best player we've been linked with for an attacker.

I don't understand how we can fail to meet his demands when paying Lingard and Henderson so much, but I'm not the accountant.

Perhaps he wanted a buy out clause we couldn't agree to. Or refused to agree to our wage cut demands if we get relegated.

Yes,but Henderson and Lingard are only on one year contracts-we can’t afford to be lumbered with
long-term excessive salaries if we get relegated.

If we don't get Cornet we could always fall back on his assist stats (instead of the goals) and claim we didn't want to!

Only 1 in the Premier League (for comparison Saint-Maximin of Newcastle got 5, meaning for goals+assists him and Cornet were level, albeit Cornet played less games)

Maybe also that his scoring total (scoring rate anyway) last season was a bit of an outlier, compared to his previous club numbers and his International ones.

Obviously if we do get him still, ignore this post lol!

I'll tell you someone who did get a lot of goals and also a good number of assists, over the last seasons including 21/22 - James McAtee (but yes it was for Man City Under 23s I admit)!

Dennis is the better player in my opinion so if he's around the same price he'd be my preference anyway. Just that Cornet offered LWB cover which Dennis doesn't, purely from an attacking POV I'd have Dennis every time.
Same here, I watched him a lot last season because he was in my fantasy team quite early - by the end of the season everybody had him.

I think people are right. We'll probably want him to drop wages in the event of relegation etc and he's probably not keen on that when he knows there's other suitors.

If we are really going into negotiations with "we might fail" attitudes, we won't attract the likes of Cornet.
Faint heart never won fair lady - as my Old Granny said to me when I told her, when I was 17 that the girl I fancied was out of my league.

If we take off our red tinted specs for a moment and put yourself in the players shoes. He clearly took a move to Burnley to get his foot in the premier league door. Having then done well, you have to ask why he would then rush to prioritise signing for a newly promoted team who could well up in the same situation one year on.

As ever we have to appreciate the idea players may not deem us as that appealing in the wider picture

I just want Forest to sign players who genuinely want to play for the club, not players whose primary thought is looking out for themselves and fuck anyone else.

If Cornet is holding out for a better offer and prevaricating on a Forest move, then he can do one, as I am concerned.
Agreed but I really don’t think it’s a case of forest going in with the wrong mentality. It sounds and appears like we have been very sensible with signings, both in terms of fees and contract lengths with parachute payments in mind

Wasn’t the early feedback that Cornet “turned us down”? Haven’t seen anything to suggest he really wants the move to Forest.

No complaints from me whatsoever for the way we’ve gone about out business so far

An unprecedented recruitment drive in a shortened window. To have a dozen (of the quality we’ve signed) in the door already is an unbelievable effort by all concerned

Would I like us to sign Cornet? Yeah, sure. But doesn’t feel like this ones happening at this stage. Still time for a legendary Stevie Cooper chat and hug to tip the balance in our favour….
