See we have paid 6mil for a guy that newcastle dropped after a few appearances because Karl darlow was better, the same Karl darlow that was sold to Leeds for 400k and has prem experience. Not saying we should have aimed for Karl darlow but we have just bought 3 keepers for nearly 20 mill, and in hindsight signing darlow as back up to hendo would have cost about the same.

Also not saying that his experience at Newcastle should define his career but Newcastle practically walked the championship and he had lascelles infront of him. If he wasn't up to scratch in a form team is he really up to scratch for a relegation battling team?

Goalkeepers tend to get better with age. He was 24 then. And made very few appearances with 5 clan sheets.

Plus the Geordies thought Shelvey was decent. I'll trust the judgment of fans of his latest club over them lot. And they're in bits that he's left.

I like the fact that he looks like a mean bastard as well- with a big frame. Turner & Vlach look like malnourished pussies. He's also a chest beating passion merchant. I think he'll fit right in.

Muric is a good example.

In terms of him not being first choice at Burnley.. Earlier in the season Burnley fans were calling for Muric to be first choice, when Trafford was going through a shaky spell. Obviously Trafford has improved dramatically since then and looked solid for the past couple months - to the extent that I'd happily want us to take him if he becomes available in the summer.

In reserving judgment for now but it would be so very forest to take 3 swings at getting someone in the cheap when they could've had the number 1 target for the same money (we did still need a number 2 though).

So it turns out we bid £12 million for Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool. I don't understand why, if we had money to spend on Akpom, we didn't just up the bid for the keeper we actually wanted.

Because no doubt Liverpool would have wanted about 40m quid for him like they demand for all their fringe/young players that never play for them

Not sure I would describe a deal rising to 5m as expensive.

Short term he keeps net and keeps us up. Long term he may end up becoming a number 2 but overall that isn’t an issue

If we look to immediately replace him in the summer with another keeper I meant. Essentially then its 5m for a half season and a couple of seasons as a backup. It’s not the kind of business successful and/or organised clubs do is it?

Basic is 5m as well, there are addons on top of that.
