Perhaps as Barnsley are no-nonsense Northern types, they only want their defenders to defend ie. head the ball away, block shots and chop down attackers who threaten the goal and then lump the ball upfield, whereas we ask our defenders to create killer passes and set up attacks. All the time whilst spinning around like ballerinas.

Mills is fine. He's a standard Championship level bog defender who will do well at barnsley.

I'd read that clubs can offer bonuses (goals, clean sheets etc) to player as a way to get round this. So whilst only "officially" earning £10k a week, Matt Mills has in actual fact been earning £10k a week.

I dont think that is true though. The whole deal had to be under a certain amount otherwise its a pointless rule.

10k per week and 25k per appearance would kind of stick 2 fingers up at the rules

The whole contract couldn't be more than £600k a year during embargo, I assume that'd include any possible bonuses.

Two thoughts to this:

1) There's probably multiple ways around this if the club wanted him that badly. Perhaps a contract for footballing matters - training, games etc - including bonuses and add-ons, but also a contact for media appearances, being a club ambassador etc etc, perhaps even trading as a contractor in the "Matt's Unsophisticated Football Finance Swindle" business with the ticker MUFFS.. Multiple contracts for his various 'services' to Forest to get round the cap.

2) It's Mills and Fawaz we're talking about here, so he's on £10k a week.
