Matt Mills..no longer a footballer

Re: Matt Mills | Forest Player

Mills has had more bad games than good, which for a professional defender probably getting paid the best part of £10,000 a week is pretty shit..

Difficult to argue, but if we're using wages/performance as a stick to beat our players with. Theres quite a few in the queue ahead of Mills who only get half the criticism.

With this in mind does it mean you would want him to stay or go?.

Excellent point made earlier, think we've seen the best of Mills here & doubtful Karanka could improve the player to the point he lives at the next level.

I'd get rid.

Few rumblings that the supposed swap deal could be as part of a deal for Morsy, makes a bit of sense if it's true; Wigan are probably going up and I've seen a few of their fans say they need a centre half. I think it'd be a decent move for Mills, he'd likely be back starting regularly in the Championship again in 7 months time. They also signed Jay Fulton from Swansea yesterday who is a centre mid so maybe a Morsy replacement.

Interesting. Morsy is a similar kind of player to Bridcutt isn't he?

Yeah, very high energy and combative whenever I've seen him play, was brilliant for Barnsley in his loan spell there, probably a slightly cheaper and younger alternative to Clayton. Rumour has it we'd pretty much agreed a deal to sign him in the summer until Paul Cook (who made Morsy captain at Chesterfield) took over at Wigan and blocked it, so that suggests he probably has a fan or two behind the scenes here.

Edit: He also plays for Egypt so 6 months in a higher division wouldn't do his World Cup chances any harm.

Agreed. Mancienne has been injury free of late but can be prone to injury lay offs.

For me Worrall has to be who we build our defence around. Make him captain but I would like to see an experienced, quality centre back with him to help him develop.
Much like how Des helped develop Dawson. Ironically Dawson could be the player to help him develop. A bigger presence than Mancienne who i sometimes fell is a bit slight for centre back.

Maybe in the future Anel and Iacovitti will come through and slot into that position alongside Worrall. A Dawson like centre back would help their development too.

What brilliant lineage that would be :)

I'd only see Daws as a temporary measure, but I remember reading he was out of contract this year a few months ago,and he's managed over 20 appearances for Hull too.

A vote from me for Dawson. Be ideal at the back for us at the moment. As you say, a stop-gap, but to guide us through a sticky period an excellent choice. Always gives 100%.

Shipping Mills out and not waiting until his contract expires certainly makes sense, because he is one of the few players of yours with expiring contracts whom somebody might want. Nobody will rush in for Hobbs, Fox, Vaughan, Cohen. Best then to concentrate on getting rid of Mills and Carayol.

Provided of course that you buy at least one good central defender, because you will be left with only two healthy ones.

Fox and Vaughan (injury allowed) would do an excellent job at the right club. Mills needs a new club sooner rather than later and could also do a job. As for Cohen; get him involved with the youngsters (after vetting of course).

Genuinely think Manciennes overrated here though. Never subscribed to Mancienne the classy ball playing CB, he's prone to switching off & doesnt direct enough for a senior CB.

That said, he's looked excellent post Warburton when allowed to get rid plus he always stands up in backs to the wall performances.

Not convinced he's beyond mid championship, given his best hasn't really delivered.

Worrall plus New CB for me.
Agree with this.

Also agree with Chris that a good pairing is a stopper and a ball player. Where I disagree is that I think Worrall is the ball player and needs a taller, stronger compatriot next to him.

Yeah, to be honest I can see Joe developing into the “Sweeper” too.

It’s been evident to me (as I always make a point of looking out for it) how much young Worrall’s confidence at bringing the ball out from the back has improved in the last few months.

Joe Worrall alongside a Wes Morgan-type no-nonsense Centre Back would be a very tidy combination in the next few years.

I like a Defender, me.

I was amazed watching him in the Toulon Tournament last summer at how good his passing was in the middle of the England defence and he's certainly carried it on this season, I think you and Maxi are spot on a Wes Morgan type a.k.a a great big, dense, strong f***er would be perfect alongside Joe.

Re: Matt Mills | Forest Player

Karanka was CL winning cultured center half, I’m sure he won’t want a shovel footed bollock head like Mills in his defence

Perhaps they think they’re signing Mick Mills.

They are a bit behind the times up there.

Barnsley would be better signing Heather f***ing Mills. And she's got less legs than Matt.

Re: Matt Mills | Forest Player

He'd fit in ok in the 3rd division, can do a half sort of job in a bottom third 2cnd division side, exactly why he's here.
