I'd also like to add that why the f*** weren't our captain and vice captain in the refs ear then face about the time wasting? Why are the leaders of the group so nice?

Both of them on that video bigging up the siege mentality bollocks then both pussy cats when required.

Completely agree, it was infuriating watching the ref collude with their time wasting while none of our players said a word about it. We are really crying out for a leader on the pitch and, as much as I like Yatesy, he is too meek.

I'm a bit late with this seeing as we play later tonight but i have to say it.

Having read and listened to so many Reds talk about how poor we were in the first half i promised myself that i would get around to watching it again without any sound or commentary. And i've just done it. I find this to be the best way to sit back and see where we are as a team without the stress and emotion we all feel when watching it live. At half time on Saturday i was worried, but not horrified by what i saw, just worried that we didn't look like scoring whatsoever.

After viewing it as promised i can't believe the abuse the performance and singling out players got. The most important take away from that first half alone was that Crystal Palace under Glasner are as defensively sound as any team we've played this season. For much of that half, and i'm not exaggerating when i say for 30 mins or so they had every single man behind the ball. Mateta was guarding from the "front" which happened to be halfway inside his own half.
Out wide, were they forced us, they had 3 men on our two EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. There was absolutely nowhere to go. Eze dropped in to help Mitchell with Richards. Ayew dropped in on the right side to help Munoz and the other centre back. Importantly for the couple of times that Origi and Neco did manage to get to the byline they had the front post covered and the cut back to the edge of the box covered by Wharton and Lerma.

Sangare was shite? = Absolutely wrong and incredibly harsh. He broke up play in important positions at least 5/6 times, had he not we were in big trouble. His passing was fine apart from one occasion when he tried to catch Palaces rare high line to Origi but misjudged it.

Origi worked his arse off to help out Neco.
Woodie had a poor half, his first touch letting him down on the four or five opportunities he had to link play up.
CHO and Aina worked tirelessly up and down the flank but CHO was very wasteful everytime he cut inside (3 times).
MGW tried. Yatesy quiet but was neither good nor awful. He will be disappointed that he didnt cut out the pass that led to Eze for the goal, it was his lane. Felipe played a big hand in it but also made a couple of good interceptions that was balanced out by a couple of rash decisions.
Murillo was Murillo. Calm.

I haven't even watched the 2nd half and i'm already a lot more optimistic than i was on Sunday after reading/listening to everyone else. Of course we're limited, but we're not that bloody far off. Our problem is a fancy one, teams are coming to the City Ground and doing what we done last season, every man behind the ball. Unfortunately it works very well because we don't have the class that is needed to break teams down, however its worth remembering we did find a way to score in the 2nd half.

TL;DR - Crystal Palaces defence shut us down more than us being crap. The criticism of the performance and Sangare specifically was way WAY over the top and absolutely unnecessary. One win changes everything. Please let it be tonight.

One final final final thought that i have to mention, i couldn't help but think that we choose the wrong manager between Glasner and Nuno while i was watching that first half. I don't think Nuno is terrible, its just that we are lacking in quality to play the style of possession football that he wants. Especially in the final third and defending counters. (the lack of set piece organisation iis unforgivable though)

Glasner has Palace set up like us at our best last year, using quality fast counter attacks when they get the ball. Defending as a complete unit, at times it was a 5-5-0 set up, more than happy for us to have the ball.

Ok i'm really done this time.

That's interesting Isaacs. Thanks for the analysis.
From my bored non -tactical viewpoint that was an awful first half performance, with nary a shout.
My bum didn't leave my seat once, and not because I was riveted.
You are a braver man than most to try to analyse that (perceived) shit.
I just saw Sangare being played off the pitch. You clearly had a different assessment.

I spent the first half biting my nails hopelessly looking around and wondering where the hell a goal would come from.

But on a detailed look, christ our fanbase was harsh and over reactive which is understandable given the circumstances. We all care about the club so much that we are petrified of the drop and we're in a run of games now where every backwards pass is going to get a sigh. Our collective nerves are shot to bits. But a win tonight changes everything!

Interesting insights - it is always insightful to rerun the game and analyse what actually happened rather than rely eye-witness accounts as to what people thought they saw happen.
However, you haven’t commented on the lack of pace from Forest;
The really poor first touches - Origi’s strength is his clinical first touch, but too many of the others needed 2 or 3 touches to get the ball under control (Sangare & Yates were particularly guilty);
The failure to react fast to get to the second ball;
The lack of movement off the ball.
Palace came to slow the game down with horrendous time wasting, but when they broke they were far quicker, showed better technical skill, and despite Forest having 59% of the possession, most of was in the areas that don’t count.
Of course Palace adopted a blanket defence approach, but we played so slowly in that first half in particular that we made it very easy for them to defend.
Henderson didn’t haves shot to save in that 45 minutes.
2nd half, without Sangare and the lead he appeared to be carrying in his boots, we were much better, but still lacked incisive final 3rd play.

Two further observations from the Palace game:

Nuno came out early and applauded the crowd, trying to fire things up. I was pleased to see it but he does need some lessons on how to do it. It was far from inspiring. Conclusion: must do much better tonight.

Origi (there is a player in there IMHO) wandered away after being subbed. he cut across the corner of the pitch between the TE and PT and, suddenly, we were advancing down that flank. Technically we had 12 on the pitch at that moment, the officials ignored it, but I was furious at the lack of professionalism / don't give a f**k attitude from a player who has something when on the ball. Conclusion: for that a action alone, he should not be anywhere near the team tonight (although that does leave us with just the young Portuguese lad if Wood gets injured).

Yes!! Think we literally scored seconds after. Imagine if VAR disallowed it on that basis.

He should experience a consequence for doing that. The officials were either unaware or idle, and if Palace had kicked up a fuss they would have been entitled to do so. I've never seen anything like that before and I never want to again. Hopefully Forest have addressed the matter behind closed doors bit I fear that it is indicative of a general "not bovvered" theme amongst some of the playing and non-playing staff. I hope not, but I do wonder.
