Matchday 3: Birmingham City Fan Comments

You say that buts that’s how I saw it. Both sides were equal up until our 3rd then they began to chase it. I thought we struggled to dominate that game until Dawson knocked in the third. What we definetly were better at was organisation. We didn’t give Brum a sniff, it was a defensive masterclass. However this season is going to be like Moutinho at Man U. I think we are going to struggle against sides that sit in. We really don’t create a lot when teams sit in. However as the great man said you always build from the back and we are excellent there at the moment. We just need to add some more creativity and pace I think. I’m looking at Carvalho and Appiah who if they give us what we need could make us into a useful side.

Whatever. They didn’t get anywhere near us. Emerson, you have that unfortunate knack of sucking the life out of me.

I'd love to know what he'd been like on those wonderful European nights.

He'd probably have blown a fuse at the 3-3 at home to Cologne.

The second final (the Birtles show) was nerve wracking too. Talk about pressure. After, we left the ground and the thousands of Reds fans were confronted by a street full of Germans, who luckily wanted nothing more than to congratulate us. Our team showed unbelievable courage and I guess I just want our fans to do the same. We are on a ride. I suspect there will be ups and downs but we could do it. The thousands who snap up all the away tickets certainly think so. By the way, anyone got a spare Fulham ticket?

Emerson seems to be one of those fans that is never happy unless he is moaning about something, I blocked him a long time ago, if you value your sanity, I suggest everyone else do the same, to suggest a team was equal with us when they didn't manage a shot on target in the first half is just bonkers

I get what he's saying and in part he is correct, however he fails to see that it was the tactics. We took the lead, doubled it qothout much effort then proceeded to just nulify Brum so yes we did "create nothing" in thr first half but it was or at least seemed to be the plan. The second half we got the third with great ease then decided to go more attacking and blew them out the water.

I think you also have to factor in that pretty much all the teams in this league have players of quality who are not just going to roll over and let Forest win in a canter, especially early on in games when fired up and raring to go.

We have to win on our own merits and because we're not perfect at times it's going to look rough.

But, judging from comments from all sides on Saturday, we may have reason for a bit of optimism because we looked pretty good against a side who have started the season well, even if their own supporters think it's all luck.

You’re right Vals. It shows the quality of our display that we really didn’t let Bum get anywhere near us.

Too much emphasis on Brum being shit & not enough our performance for me. They had the ball down & were playing first 10 mins. We broke their spirit by giving the no time on the ball, scored our goal & the rest is history.

Too easy to suggest Brum are shite, particularly given their previous too results, sometimes youve got to give yourself some credit.

I wouldn't take too much from their 2 previous results.
The Brentford result was a case of daylight robbery, with Brum's goal being from a set-piece and Brentford having dominated and having missed as many decent chances as we did.
The Bristol City result was also down to Bristol being profligate and spurning a number of chances.
I know what you mean about not underestimating how well we played, but you are ignoring our shoddy passing on too many occasions, Brum's inability to press, going deeper and deeper as the game wore on, and their woeful performance in the final third of the pitch.
That Birmingham performance was as bad as ours a few years ago when they came here and whopped us 3-0 - the only good thing that day was McLaren resigning after the game.

.

What I took from their results is their more than capable of taking points off good sides, on their own pitch. Much like our own performance against Leeds, you make your own luck & credit where its due for holding out. Posession stats & chances converted are largely immaterial.

I stand by the inference the Birmingham game was more to do with us executing a top game plan than them being a shit side.

Birmingham weren’t that bad. I reckon some are letting the last 30 minutes cloud their judgement. We were dominant by then and they looked beaten. However, it took some hard work to ‘win the battle’ up to that point, which then allowed us to play our football.

Tbf to the lad, he tends to make a point, sometimes valid sometimes not, and it gets blown out of proportion as negative. If you read his post earlier in the thread he's as positive as he is negative, highlighting the defensive & organisational "masterclass"

A bit of extra creativity & pace wouldn't go amiss IMO

Thanks Calvin, fine job as ever.

Our first two goals (especially Grabban's) were just the sort we'd concede last season. First one (good thinking by us) caught them out while they were still wondering where they should stand, the 2nd was a feeble, half-arsed attempt at marking.

Our third was scored by a good part of the reason why we are less vulnerable at the back this time.

I thought we'd draw this one and Wed night at Charlton, so looking forward to seeing how we get on down there.

The Birmingham fans I know all believe they're going down this season....

My Blue-nose knuckle dragging friends think that also.
But as with everything in this League, it is very early to start drawing up league tables.
I don't expect their current management team to be in place for much longer though.

Some baffling comments from the thick brummy twats there.

In no particular order:

Claiming that game was in any way even at any point. Eh?

Claiming that the free-kick that led to the first goal was anything but a foul. Eh?

Claiming that they were “trying to play fancy football”. Eh?

Claiming that Lolley is unprofessional because he only steps up his game vs them. Eh?

They were f***ing wank, never remotely threatened our goal, we absolutely battered them, could’ve had 7 or 8 and I’d have good money on them being the worst team we see down the CG this season.

Shitty little two-bob club, always in Villa’s shadow.

I agree entirely, it was just like the Boro game last season.

I am sure he is not a bad person however Football fans have to enjoy the moment because we know that it may only last until the next game. Unfortunately he always seems to have the ability to put a damper on the enjoyment, some of his points may be valid but his timing is s**t.

Was the Boro performance a top game plan, or was it a case of throwing enough shit at a wall until it sticks. Must have been our third different approach in as many months.

lamouchi has made a much better job of finding the mix between getting the best out of us & nullifying them.

Chambers giving up the chase for their third goal was unforgivable. The worst kind of human.

Was that the one where he watched the game from the stands, without being banned?
