Mark Warburton Sacked

Well if they said MW knew that our aim was x and he fell short of meeting this remit that would be something wouldn’t it?.
Remember it was a member of the hierarchy that released the statement at the beginning of the season alluding to the slow progress and that MW would be given the time to see it through (or similar).
If the club had said that our aim is play offs or similar and he knew it and failed to get the right players in to do this then I would agree with his sacking.
It’s that simple.

It was obvious he was falling short of his remit. No manager in the country would be surprised if he was sacked when he’d lost more than half of his games and had one of the worst defensive records in the division. From what DT said, the club became increasingly concerned and frustrated at the lack of any progress in these areas, so it wasn’t as if MW wasn’t aware that things needed to improve. As I’ve said before, if he complacently thought his job was safe given those failings then he only has himself to blame.

This is the legacy of the Fawaz era - frequent reactive communications that were only aimed at appeasing the masses. It’s about time we had owners who just got on with the job rather than feel they have to constantly respond to fans who can’t tolerate a bit of uncertainty.

Or maybe they should say, “We were serious about glacial progress in midtable, but now we’re serious about promotion”. ;)

I just think a statement stating where the differences lie would be good customer service, quell some doubts, and cost threpance so be worth it.

The time for it has probably passed, but if results go shit now they've left themselves open to a lot of criticism. Whereas the right statement would have had some more understanding.

Here's hoping results go well and it becomes inconsequential.

In light of the reaction of the fans and Randall being accused of lying in his preseason statement, perhaps the club feel further statements are more trouble than they are worth Alf?

They should know better, because they're not. You're asking for a good member of staff to have half hour putting something together, let someone else review. Review the next day then post. It's hardly moving mount everest.

You'd still be moaning whatever they said. :p

They said all they needed to say. Football's a subjective business...all about opinions. Some agree, some don't - that's life. The club is accountable to the fanbase, but not to individual fans who might disagree with a decision.

Few key points which stood out to me...

“That was the target, to avoid relegation,” Warburton recalled. “You know what it means, the implications of going down to a club, especially when you've just bought the club. For Mr Marinakis and the board, the implications (of relegation) were crystal clear. What had to be done was just survival.

“My first day, what amazed me was that I think we had 36 players, something like that. I was told there were 11 loan players. I remember being told there's 11 loan players over there, foreign boys on serious money.

“I’m comparing it to Glasgow Rangers and Brentford - bearing in mind we'd finished fifth in the Championship, in the play-offs (at Brentford) - and the wages were like, wow. There were people nowhere near the first-team.

“When you have that many players, the immediate problem in the first few days was, hang on a second. Say you're going to an away game and you're on the coach on a Friday afternoon, you might have 20 players on that coach. You've got 15 or 16 boys not even on the coach, let alone in the team. They weren't even on the coach.

“You go into the press conference and you say all the right things. You have to, because the supporters quite rightly want to hear that their club's going to be OK and that we've got a chance to survive.

“But very quickly for me, two things became apparent. One, the role of the likes of Chris Cohen, David Vaughan, Matt Mills, Jack Hobbs, Michael Mancienne and Eric Lichaj, the senior pros in the squad. And secondly, the impact of the young guys - the Ben Breretons, the Ben Osborns, the Jordan Smiths, the Matty Cashs, the Joe Worralls.

“Joe Worrall just wanted to play for the first team. You look back at how many times I played Joe. We played away at QPR and Joe made the mistake that cost us the game. We played really well, Joe made a bad mistake on the halfway line and we lose the game. But he had such a great attitude.

“It was the young guys who showed that fearlessness because they'd never really been there. They probably didn't know the implications. It wasn’t them being naive, they’re just young and fearless. Joe Worrall, Jordan Smith, Ben Osborn, Matty Cash, Ben Brereton, they just wanted to play football for Forest.

“You can see there was a lot of confusion and a lot of uncertainty. Our job was to try to bring the order and clear goals that we wanted to achieve. The obvious goal was to make sure Nottingham Forest was in the Championship. That was the key, key, key goal. After that, we could build for next season.”

“I remember reading something derogatory about Frank (McParland). Let me tell you, there's not many better in this country in Europe with an eye for a player. Frank should be working at the top end of the Premier League,” he said.

“In terms of recruitment, I remember being told that in the (transfer) window, they had come back from a game and Zach Clough, Ross McCormack and two other players were sitting in reception having signed. No one knew they were going to be there.

“I don't know how the deals were done. I don't know who did the deals, but I remember the head of medical saying to me, we never did any medicals on these guys."

“That type of uncertainty and situation causes confusion. People question their responsibilities - should the medical (team) have done it or should the recruitment (team) have done it?
(The whole problem with our club under Marinakis - disorganisation.)

“It’s nothing to do with Frank. We weren't even at the club at the time. I just wanted clarity. One of my regrets is that I always felt the Forest fans never got the full story while we were there of what was really going on . There was so much uncertainty.

I had loan players coming up to me saying that they wanted to go home, they wanted to get out. I didn't even know who they were.

“The fans probably didn't know what was going on. And then you had, why don’t we play him or why don’t we try him? You just can't throw someone in there. You had to put people in there who wanted to play for Forest and who really wore their hearts on their sleeves. The likes of Joe Worrall, Ben Osborn, Matty Cash, they do. I can't speak highly enough of these characters, they were superb.

There were not 11 loan players when MW came in.

Pereira, Kasami, Dumitru in the summer
Then we got in Tsihbola, Texiera and McCormack in January.

They were the season after. He specifically said when he arrived which I thought was wrong when I heard it.

The Jan signings were of course after he had left

I think Warburton is referring to arriving back at the club for pre-season, not actually arriving at the club, seeing as that was in March that year?

I'll have to relisten.

Didn't bother. They all have a good reason everything went pear-shaped and none of it is to do with their mistakes or other actions.

It was a pretty decent watch. Summed up the second half of the Fawaz Era and spoke about the moving goalposts of the Marinakis Era. Warbs probably should have had more time but then again, so should Karanka.

Think history has proven Warburton to be shite. I remember thinking he deserved more time as I often do, though he was taking us nowhere.

He had six months in the job and moved us from relegation threatened to mid-table flirting with top six, with minimal investment.

He was good, and deserved more time, and was equal to every manager that followed him up until Steve Cooper.

I supported him at the time, but his QPR stint turned out as I expect it would have done with us should he have been given more time. A mediocre championship manager in my eyes.
