Lyle James Alfred Taylor

It was nice to see his goal make the BBCs FA Cup Stunners reel.

I have a very old friend who is a Charlton fan and always look out for their results. When we went to the last match that we played them down at the Valley I got to see Taylor play for the 1st time. I thought he was mustard and thought "I wish we had a striker like that". I really rate him and have been impressed the way he has applied himself.

BTW My Addick friend thinks the formation we play is perfect for him.

I have said previously about the whole knee thing, I don't hate the gesture I just hate the politics that follows it around, and that comes from the BLM group. If it was a Kick It Out initiative the reception would be completely different in my opinion.

There is a lot to like about Taylor's game. So far the main thing that's disapointed me is his killer instinct in the box, hopefully he can show more of it like he did against Cardiff. He has snatched at a lot of chances so far this season.

It’s been about five games I think, can’t remember now but I’m sure others have kept a keen eye on his unacceptable behaviour and tell you

Your right, but I've just realised he didn't start those games, so hasn't been visible. Sheffield Wednesday was the last game he started.

It’s worth noting there are counter arguments to this in the UK that BLM protesters were treated softly compared to other protesters like anti-lockdown, extinction rebellion etc. In fact the brief for the police was allegedly don’t do anything stupid because of the previous events in the USA.
The TSG certainly weren’t snatching individuals like they have been doing during some of the other protests.

Personally I couldn’t give a f*** what Lyle thinks but admire him for following his own set of beliefs whether right or wrong in whoever’s eyes. He has a right to exercise that like everyone else does.

Me and my mates were having a zoom call when all this came up during the pulling down of statues. We're all Bulwell lads of a certain age and now spread around the world and country. Of the 7 of us two are black. One of them said that while he appreciated the gesture of the knee etc this whole thing was nothing new and he just wanted people to live up to the spirit of not that BLM but that "my life matters as much of yours EVERY DAY".

He reminded of a time we were out in town and went into the old Flying Horse - can't remember what it had been renamed. Anyway the clientele were 95% black. We had a drink and as we left one of the group (white) christened the place SWAPO (for those that don't know, a Namibian black liberation movement in the 60's and 70s) and said that had been a bit intense, being white in there...

The black friend said "now you know how I feel when I go into pretty much every room, every day...." always stuck with me.

That's how I've tried to live my life since and what I take from BLM is what I put in - that a black life does matter, just as much as mine or yours. And that yes there has been an imbalance for centuries and that if and when we encounter that imbalance or unfairness we have a choice and a responsibility, to help or to look away.

That choice is yours, do what you will, But be conscious of what you did and why and live with the knowledge and consequences of your actions.

Absolutely and I’ve had similar experiences growing up with a few black lads in the 70’s/80’s.

Try A Little Tenderness
At the risk of contradicting my earlier comments, I'd be interested to know more about his exchanges with Ryan Yates over the "taking-the-knee" issue that he referenced in the interview.

Intruigingly for me, I also detected a veiled implication that he doesn't necessarily share the overwhelming view of last Wednesday's events in Washington DC which, if I'm right, he was definitely wise to avoid expanding on.

So if a player holds views contrary to your own, what does that actually mean? Would you boo said player? Treat him disrespectfully in other ways?
Lyle clearly likes to share his views, he was asked though so wouldn't have necessarily have expanded on them had he not been. I don't think that as a white middle aged bloke I've got the right to criticise a black person's views on that particular subject.

Out of interest, does anyone know where the interview is online? I'm quite curious to hear it myself.

Yes that would be interesting, given that Yates doesn't exactly come over as unintelligent either.

If it was a Kick It Out initiative the reception would be completely different in my opinion.

That's a convenient myth but I believe it would be hard to substantiate.

If you were to go back through threads on this forum over the years that have discussed Kick It Out, you'll find the same themes circle around the discussion

I picked just one thread, link below, but there are several to choose from.

Maybe you are right, that's just the way I view it. I think even from 2012 the perception of groups like Kick It Out are much more positive, but the general perception of BLM is not as positive. Of course there will always be the people that complain about everything like the Rainbow Flag brigade (as in, the people that moan about rainbow flag laces or corner flags).

Football will always have racism either blatant or covert. Sadly it isn't something that can be stopped ever as long as small minded idiots follow football teams.

You certainly don't get it with snooker.

Which is another reason to subscribe to Eurosport player for €6.99 a month or DAZN of you're in Germany as that includes the Eurosport channels.

Don’t get it in boxing neither

Don’t get me wrong boxing has it’s won issues but that is definitely not one. And with such an aggressive sport you’d think some of the particulars at a professional level would be like of that persuasion

I suspect this is more to do with not having updated the site today - the highlights package hasn't been posted yet either

Hughton's post-match interview was posted following the game as normal, and then all the match day related content usually gets posted the next day.
