Lewis McGugan

As we start to hear all the rumours of who may be signing, I think it's every bit as important who we keep. I think it is vital we keep Lewis (& not just because he is one of my daughters hero's) but I think he is the most skillfull player at the Club.
We need to keep our best players and he definitely has the talent. Billy will get the best out of him also.

But how many seasons have we been saying this now, Agreed he has a mass of talent but the application just is'nt there

At times ive put more effort in for the cause than lewis.

Plus ive read on here he stinks. We want clean players at our club.

Raddy has as much talent as McGugan and a better attitude - to be honest I'm ambivalent over him, happy if he stays but equally wouldn't be sorry if he goes

We need to sign him if only becuase he is now out of contract and if he left we would bet nothing for him.
Mrcenary, I know, but at the back of my mind he is a player with his best years still to come.

If he goes to another championship club he will undoubtedly consistently tear it up so I hope we keep him. Plus he's at his best under billy

If I was Davies I'd simply say, there's a contract there if you want it, and my door's open. But I wouldn't spend a single minute trying to pursuade him or trying to match the money other teams are offering. If he wants to go, let him go. Can you imagine a mardy McGugan who is dreaming of playing for Cardiff? Jesus, he's lazy enough as it is.

If he beats the door down and says I want one more season at Forest, please sign me up, I'm not interested in the money then fair enough.

McGugan strikes me as one of these players with inflated reputation who, if we let him go, won't be as good as the buying club thinks he is and will be back here in two years.

Whether we keep him or not depends on our system for next year. I don't think there's room for a midfield with creativity in the form of Reid, Lansbury, Cox, Majewski and McGugan, and retaining Henderson suggests Davies might have a plan for more width/more directness, so it wouldn't hurt to lose him.

When we went on that winning streak last season, who scored the goals?

I hope he goes. He has been in the first team squad for around 5 or 6 years now and has never really been able to deliver consistently. Usually blaming it on whatever manager has just been sacked.

Hes a talented striker of the ball, but offers very little else. Great players do more than just contribute the odd long distance screamer every now and again, and for the other 89 minutes of games Mcgugan is a passenger or adept at shooting harmlessly wide from 40 yards.

He needs a chance to reignite his career somewhere else IMO, and maybe develop into the player so many people seem to think hes capable of being.

Maybe he needs a completely new environment, other than the one at Forest where everyone seems to tell him he is amazing all the time - without him having to do anything to justify it.

Good luck to him wherever he goes, and if he stays maybe this will be finally be his year - but how many years have we been saying that now?

I'd rather Forest just brought in someone better, and finally let Mcgugan go to be honest.

The club and the player need a new start.

Two penalties, two deflected goals and a couple of good strikes. Where was he for the rest of the season?

Well that's not fair to say where was McGugan for the rest of the season, you could say that about most of our first team squad who didn't exactly produce amazing performances. I might be wrong but I think McGugan played fewer games for us last season than most of our other midfielders, yet produced the most goals.
I think him and Adlene are the only ones who will actually attempt a shot from outside of the box too which sometimes we need,

Yes, and where do the majority of those strikes go? If McGugan isn't scoring, he's doing absolutely nothing. I'm sick to death of him having 4 weeks of form a season and people saying he's worth his place. He's not. He's got all the ability in the world but so little application and consistency.

And someone comparing him to Cox needs shooting. Cox provides so much more to the team than McGugan.

Is this a joke? It was becoming ridiculous towards the end of the season, all our midfielders were lashing wayward shots from 40 yards the second they received the ball. Its no wonder our forwards never got any chances.

Come August, when we are one down with 25 minutes to go, would we want to bring him on? Of course. Has one of the best MF goal scoring records in the last decade for Forest.

Not always a player to start every game, but has more than enough in his locker to make a big impact next season. Billy knows how to manage him and doesn't ask him to do things he can't - which is good simple management. Others have tried to make him a disciplined CMF - he isn't that and gets called "lazy" as a result. Majewski is not a replacement. He is passer who only scores in patches as well and is a different type of player. More pleasing to the eye, but defenders are more worried about McGugan's shooting and dribbling.

I cant disagree with a some of that but the thing is Hulk who has delivered consistently?.
I go back to the thing I bang on about again and again which is as a club in the last ten years or so we are woeful at getting the best out of our players. Also the scouting system fails to deliver time and time again.
