Amusing name aside, he's Huddersfield's local reporter who broke the news of the deals collapsing in the first place.

Fingers crossed he's right and we get this done!

There has been some Oscar-winning drama on here today, but it looks like, as the Bard once wrote, „All‘s well that ends well!“

It is a bit odd as there's all this talk of the two of them being inseparable and best buds...
It's true. Here's a recent picture of them in training:

What does everything think of
1: O'Brien & Yates
2: O'Brien & Garner
3: Yates & Garner
as our midfield for the season?
We don't even have Garner (yet?) and this still looks too weak for me.
I'd really like an EPL midfielder in there, with quality and experience. Even if its someone outside our normal age range, maybe an older player who we can get for good value.

Problem with that is EPL experience comes with big wages. And I think the club would like to avoid having a player on ridiculous wages if we go back down again.

Edit: if it's a loan I wouldn't be opposed though.

I'm just worried that we don't have players who can reliably pick out an unexpected/high quality pass. Maybe its not a priority for Cooper because we play on the transition, so O'Brien's ball carrying skills are more important, I dunno, but having the option there to take control of a game would be ideal if it were me deciding these things.
Maybe Niakhate can, I've heard he's got decent passing, but I feel like we're missing that player who can create something from nothing, or dominate a game and control the tempo, like Andy Reid in his second spell here.

Know what you mean. Think Gibbs white would be like that for us, but I Don't know if we are ready to pay the asking price for him. Players with that quality I feel are extremely hard to come by nowadays. I think we are just focusing on some players who work hard to get the ball l, and carry it up the pitch.

I think those would be enough, but for me we could need a complete holding player as well - not a player to play every game but to come on or play in the games where we need to pack the midfield.

Somebody like Milivojevic from Palace who could be a cheap option with lots of experience

Lots of people expressing concern at the state of the squad, all you have to do is think back to 7 games into last season, then think ”fook me we’re in the prem” and all problems seem a tad smaller!

whatever happens this season will be better than the last 23! The back of house staff seem to have a handle on it and I’m confident in their ability to get us through the season. However we come out of it the other side we will be in a damn site better place than we were a year ago!

enjoy it and have an ice lolly!

Think we need to realise the transfer window doesn't close in the first day of the season. So if we are perhaps a bit short come the Newcastle game, we still have some time to get players in.

Obviously I'd prefer them done ASAP so we can start good, but I Don't think it'll be the end of the world if some come in a bit later than expected.

Said it before but I think Harry Winks is a fantastic player. Wasn't so long ago he was instrumental in running the midfield in games at the Nou Camp for Spurs and against the Spanish national team for England.

I remember the good old days when preseason, Forest only had one defender (and that was Brendan Molomey, I think?)

This is childs play, in comparison.

Don’t under estimate O’Brien’s passing though - he has a great left foot

Even with Garner I would be really worried.

O'Brien is untested at this level and likely takes a season to settle into his best form IMO. Yates, we love him, and he will be useful as a bundle of energy off the bench, but he's simply not PL standard.

IMO we need at least one defensive/box to box beast and then either Garner or another tidy passer. We then also need a MGW type player as an AM off the striker

New DM/Yates Garner (or alternative)/O'Brien
New AM

I'd argue we need two more in that AM, or another CM and O'Brien becomes the alternate AM.

I'd imagine we are looking at our final loan slot for Garner or the alternative.
