Navas is as good, if not better, than Henderson at stopping the ball going in the onion bag. He’s much better with the ball in his hands and at his feet.

Yes, he’s a depreciating asset but if Hendo is crocked long term AND unlikely to sign next season, given he’s got another 2 years on his contract and United don’t sell cheap, then Navas is a perfect ‘next 18-30 months’ keeper with presence and influence for the dressing room whilst we bring through some of our younger players.

There is only one thing that matters this season and that’s avoiding relegation. If Navas improves our chances then I trust the club.

I’d assume if we are going for a keeper of this standard it’s because Henderson is either out injured for longer than predicted or they are concerned it’s the type of injury that has the potential to reoccur and leave them open to potential disaster.

My hope is that Henderson comes straight back and picks up exactly where he left off. But I’d be mad at the club if they weren’t at the least exploring a contingency plan until they are more certain.

Also, the clubs he played for have world class defenders in front of him, we have Worrall and boly
That makes no sense as an argument, isn't the point that he had world class defenders infront of him because he's in the same category & is world class himself?

I find the notion that Real Madrid would decide to plonk a subpar keeper behind their world class centre half quite amusing, it has to be said.

Don’t want to be a negative nelly but I’ve never really rated Navas, even when he was collecting CL winners medals like Tesco Clubcard Points.

Only makes sense to me if Henderson is out for longer than we’re beng told

I did try the argument that despite being a fairly poor amateur goalie, with class back 4 in front of me, I was a shoe-in for my clubs first eam, rather than playig me, a crap keeper behind an incompetent defence.
It didn't have a great deal of success...

There are plenty of examples throughout footballing history of a great team being successful with decent but not world class keepers. Basically every world cup winning Brazil side for starters...

Navas has been a good keeper over the years but certainly not in the same bracket as Courtois, Oblak, Neuer, Allison and quite a few others.

It depends on the extent of Henderson's injury which only the club knows but general concensus was 4-6 weeks and that was last Saturday so we're talking 4/5 games, two of which he's unavailable for anyway and one is City so a very likely defeat whoever is in goal. Is it really worth a decent loan fee plus (alleged) 250k a week wages for 3 league games?

Not for me personally. I know everyone gives it the 'its nothing in PL money" argument but we have to show some sort of care for the finances of the club surely. It's irresponsible and unnecessary in my eyes.

We aren't trying to sign the number one goalkeeper in the world. We are trying to avoid potentially staking our survival hopes on Wayne Hennessey and Jordan Smith. I think we can all agree the only thing he has to be is better than them, which only a blind person who has been locked in a box on the moon would deny.

Navas is absolutely in the same bracket at those keepers and it’s mental to suggest otherwise IMO

No of course nobody would disagree with that.

Just to be clear I'm not saying there that Navas isn't good enough for us becausehe obviously is, but there's been the term 'world class' banded about in this thread and I'm questioning that.

I suppose it depends on your criteria for world class and maybe mine is stricter than others. Which would make sense based on the OTT way our players are spoken about at times.

He is not as good as Neuer, so that means he's not better than Wayne Hennessey?

SSN are quite convinced we are still trying to sign him.
They're getting a bit weird and they are also insisting that we are after Darlow too.

Im not used to us being discussed so much but every person on Sky talks like its 100% factual even though there can't be any way that we are signing two keepers and their own ticker news was saying one of the two was signing for Hull imminently too!

€1,000,000 a month? I know PSG can afford silly money but f***ing seriously, they're paying that for a third choice keeper?
