"Kinnear set the tone on his first day at Forest when he became hopelessly lost driving around the city while the club's directors waited for him to pitch up to sign the relevant paperwork"

That, right there, should have been a massive 50-foot tall warning sign.

Some recollections from his time here that would be amusing were it not for the serious decline his tenure helped to hasten.

My personal favourite was his frequent claim that he'd reduced the club's debt by ever-increasing millions.

I don't believe for 1 minute that Mark Arthur had the sense to turn on the floodlights, nor that he would authorise paying for it.

Genuinely disliked Kinnear as a person. The only manager I can remember disliking for non footballing reasons.
If it wasn't for the hardworking teamwork kick and rush style of Wimbledon This man would never see his name mentioned in the same sentence as football.

I always enjoyed singing "he's fat, he's round, he's sending derby down, Joe Kinnear, Joe Kinnear"

Pathetic Joke of a manager.

My lowest point of being a Forest supporter was a game at Burnley. The match programme had a piece about Burnley wanting to establish themselves as a top 30 club. As I read it my natural Forest swagger got the better of me. top 30 I laughed at this idea. Then I turned the page and the usual focus on the opposition: great history but current position laughable with a big picture of Kinarse. They beat us 3-0. The rest is history, we were relegated. When they went up to the prem I was laughing on the other side of my face.

The sort of arse that gives arses a bad name.
I suspended my support in protest at his appointment and didn't resume until he had gone.
A vile and horrible waste of DNA.

The only good he did for our club was to give someone the opportunity to come up with the forum username: Joe Kinnear's Elasticated Waistband.

Everything else was depressing beyond belief.

"They also remember one defeat at Forest when Kinnear worked himself into such a froth he picked out one player, Chris Doig, for some particularly harsh criticism. Doig had been one of the unused substitutes. "

He served a purpose for the remainder of the season after he replaced Paul Hart by introducing an uncomplicated, back-to-the-basics approach into a dressing room that had gradually been dragged down by Harty's morose response to being denied the opportunity to apply for the West Ham and Leeds jobs, which was plunging us in a seemingly unstoppable downward spiral. A situation compounded by Hart's stubborn refusal to abandon a diamond formation that every other team had long-since rumbled.

At the end of that season ND should have thanked Kinnear for his efforts and seen him on his way rather than irresponsibly offering him a 3-year contract. A decision that undoubtedly triggered the worst period in the club's history.

We've had an uncanny knack of making disastrous decisions in the past. Whether it's not backing the manager at pivotal points, making promises that were never kept, selling top players from under a manager's nose or appointing a terrible manager. Looking back, you can only shudder.

Looking forward, I think I am now the most optimistic I've been in a long time; perhaps since Hart was shooting us up the table while also playing some beautiful passing football. If ever there was a time to pull together and believe, it is now.
