I think we will naturally reduce the squad unless we start handing out contract extensions willy nilly.

Hennessey, Boly, Felipe, Wood, Aina, Kouyate (Aurier if he stays) all out of contract, Montiel and Tavares we can do better than surely, Origi gone even if he lasts the season.

That's ten players right there, before we even get into selling anyone.

If we can find a way to stay up this year I'm cautiously optimisitic about the make up of the squad next season. I am sad Mangala won't be part of it, but financially the deal for him was evidently too good to turn down.
If is such a big word for only 2 letters!
What are the bookies odds on Forest avoiding relegation?
As I said in another post, I have given up hope and feel much better for doing so.

I PROMISE not to mention it again.
And I further PROMISE at the end of the season not to say "I told you so".
And I feel much better after abandoning hope because the Championship is a better place to be than this elite-dominated Premier League, with its servile attitude towards the media, its VAR, and its crap officiating because of VAR.
Back in the Championship attendeces will possibly fall back from capacity crowds at every home game, to maybe 20,00, so parking will be easier, the queues for the chipshop will be shorter, and getting away post match will take less time.
The future is bright!
Just abandon hope.

Seems to me you do have hope, of a sort 😉
Paradoxical isn't it?
It's like I tell my wife: being grumpy all the while makes me happy.
But if i am grumpy ALL the while, when can I experience the happiness being grumpy all the while brings?
Being grumpy and being happy seem to be mutually exclusive conditions.
At least Schrodinger only had a cat!
Or did he?

Stupidly put a bit of Sky Sports News on late last night after the deadline, and there were a couple of absolute Divocks giving it all the "How come Forest are still buying loads of players, what with FFP trouble etc etc". One of them started waffling on about three year financial cycles and 'rolling the dice' and all the rest of it. No-one mentioned that we'd actually sold two players at a profit this window and let another three or four who's contracts were running down go.

We literally bought a goalkeeper for about £5m and brought in a couple of loans, and that's it. Suppose we brought this reputation on ourselves, but jeez. Clueless.
Exactly it’s so lazy. We made a 20 mill profit last night.

Glad we didn't go mad & commit £15m or so to signing a striker with a patchy record. If Ribeiro can contribute then we might be alright, otherwise I think we're perhaps a forward short. Hopefully Elanga/Awoniyi can stay fit.

In midfield, we undoubtedly got great money for Mangala but Sangare needs to step up now. I'd also like to see Dominguez given more minutes in central midfield.

At we CB, we look okay but could do with Felipe/Boly staying fit for the run in. Hopefully Aina comes back from AFCON unscathed as I think he's comfortably the best of an average group of FB's.

Not convinced on Sels but he just needs to be competent & not do anything stupid, hopefully he's experienced enough to do just that.

Think the fitness of our forward players (and include MGW in that) hinges on whether we do well enough to stay up. That and a potential points penalty obviously.

I thought it was overall a pretty decent window. We didn't need another wild spending spree with an influx of new players again.

What we have done is recruit in the three positions every one of us wanted us to (GK, LW and FWD), and trimmed some of the excess in other positions. It's a shame to see Mangala go, but we've made a massive profit on him, which will give us some real ability to sign some quality in the summer.

I do worry about us up top - I'd have liked to have seen us bring another forward in, preferably one who can play across the line. Brereton would have done for me.

(Edit: should add that's because I haven't thought of as the Portuguese kid as being fir the first team - is he does anyone know?)

He's 18 years old. How many 18 year olds make a regular contribution to PL sides? There probably hasn't been a player like that for twenty years since Rooney burst into the scene.

He'll be 3rd choice behind Wood and he'll probably get less than 30 minutes of first team action by season end unless we have a major injury crisis.

More likely.

May have been covered elsewhere ( apologies if so ) but I find James Claridge’s move to Watford a curious one - especially as he’s been given just an 18 month contract.
I’m guessing that the Academy coaches just don’t believe he has the necessary skills to progress much further?

He's had a bit of a tough time with injuries

Yeh, he was very highly rated at 16/17, played for (and captained I think) a few of the England age groups. Barely played in the last couple of years though and has seemingly been overtaken by the younger batch coming through. Hopefully he can rebuild his career at Watford.
