Inevitable sale of Zak Whitbread

Just seen reported on SSN that the Millwall manager Kenny Jacket has reported that Zak Whitbread will inevitably be sold, they report that Jacket has stated that they have had no bids in for Whitbread other than the one that was excepted by Millwall form Peterbouogh Utd and that the player could`nt agree terms.

Could it mean that we could end up seeing Whitbread in a Forest shirt?

Only if he and his agent come back down to earth by accepting a reasonable wage - FFS he's with a 3rd Div. side that can't be paying him sh!t loads.

It would be different if he was coming down out of the Prem' so if Milwall want rid it might just backfire on him when no one will be interested.

If we want him we shouldn't linger - we have to say take it or leave it.

Well , Peterborough did come from league 2 to league 1 , then to championship in straight successive season with not really a lot of new additions to their team , i would imagine that their wages within the team is pretty low so they aren't likely to offer that much.

I think we could tempt Maldini over seeing as its a new challenge. In his time he was a winning member of seven Italian Serie A championships, one Coppa Italia, five Supercoppa Italiana, five UEFA Champions League Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, two Intercontinental Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup. This was all with AC Milan. He must fancy something else now. Free too such as other immortals like Andrew Cole, Neil Lennon and Nicky Barmby and Ian Wright.

Slot right into our "Come and look at what you could have won" section of Forest wash ups.

I said at the time when we won promotion that not many of those that played that season were good enough to step up to the mark of Championship football.

Calderwood & Doughty wanted to give those that got us there the first opportunity and also thought the kids that were starting to come through the academy were going to push us further when they started talking about back-to-back promotions.

There should be no sentiment in football and any manager who's worth his salt should know and recognise who are capable in taking the next step up.

Billy Davies stepped in and recognised straight away that we needed proven Championship players that have been there – done it and seen it – Horses for Courses I think it's called.

Having the right manager in now means that if or when we get into the Premiership he will rip the side to pieces once again and replace those that are not up to top league football and replace them with players that are good enough for the Premiership.

Billy did have the advantage of seeing Forest perform at that level before taking over and thus being able to see before signing on as manager who could play well enough at Championship level, unlike Calderwood, who had no experience at this level and decided to give his team the chance to prove themselves.

The 'back-to-back promotion' talk started at about this stage in the season. An OK pre-season against premiership opposition, a opening day 0-0 draw with Reading and 4-0 rout of a poor L2 outfit.

You'd be surprised. They are willing to pay good wages if they feel a player is worht it. Gabby Zakuani, for example is on a wage similar to that he would be getting here. McLean, Mackail-Smith and Boyd are also on what I would consider to be above avergae championship salaries.

However, the Chairman is quick to show the door to any potential targets (or agents) who only want to talk about money.

Well, a good agent would probably want to know what facilities his client will be able to enjoy, in terms of training, injury treatment etc, what are his current chances of first team football, what the chairman and managers short and long-term objectives are...

...much like turning up to a job interview and asking straight away what the pay is, it doesn't create a good impression.

When I go for a job interview I always go myself.

I would have thought there is an order to these things:

...Clubs agree a price and a schedule.

...Manager of the buying club sells it to the player.

...The player's agent goes in for a chat about terms.

Which is, indeed the point. All the player/his agent cared about was money. They didn't care who they were playing for or with. Such a player is likely to a) cost the club a fortune, which probably won't be repaid with any sort of commitment and b) start demanding a transfer at the faintest whiff of another club being interested.
