We should just go full scouse and blame Chelsea fans for it all happening.
That's very much just the flip side of a shit coin
What’s the downside ?
Perhaps they can incorporate the following when they redesign the City Ground? The moat could be filled with ravenous zombie Derby fans crazed by their time in League 1.

Narrator: It didn’t work.
They should have filled the moat with piranha fish!
The downside of erecting fences at football grounds again? Do you really need me to answer that?
I'm totally against pitch invasions. I know it was a massive relief when we won on penalties but you can celebrate in the stand just as well. Our group waited until the manager/players came out and did a lap of honour but it was a shame that the City Ground was less than 20% full by then. We don't want to go back to cages, we all know what a success they weren't. I'd make it clear that anybody running on to the pitch will be banned....OK so the Club won't identify everybody - there were too many the other night - but if you ban a few it's a warning. Those running over to the away fans and goading them are a disgrace. This has to be stopped, it's getting out of control.

They are fine as a celebration and the players loved it, much better than a club/media controlled celebration. We have the agenda from the middle class media again, authoritarian bans, ground closures etc. Keep the plebs in their place is the mindset. Again at city yesterday one person has done something stupid, out of many thousands. There are plenty of things the authorities can do to limit the invasion to protect players. Even small temporary barriers will make it impossible, or harder for many to get on, when the game is about to end a signal could get the away players towards the tunnel then they could be off in 10 seconds. Authoritarian measures don't work in the end, one way or another the game is damaged by them. They do them regularly in France and it is always the same clubs whose fans get punished again and again.

It would be useful if you could. I made a serious suggestion and you poo-pood it without explanation.

I'm sure that you are aware of the major downside being that in the event of an emergency, with a fixed fencing system, the crowd get crushed against the fences as happened at Hillsborough, and in 1983 at the City Ground itself - https://thecelticstar.com/nottingham-forest-v-celtic-the-most-frightening-thing-to-have-happened-to-me-at-a-match/
Now you might say that had excess fans not entered the ground then it wouldn't have been a problem, but if people don't go on the pitch you don't need fences.
If fencing was introduced, and please dun't let it be, it probably needs to have some kind of electronic release mechanism so that the fences can be quicky opened in an emergency. I could see that having it's own issues though as people crushed against it could end up being crushed on the floor when they fall through. The solution to that cold be to open the gates at the edges first to allow some lessening of the pressure before opening the fencing in the worst affected spot when the crush at the back has eased a bit.
Those incidents were pre all seater stadiums. Thankfully we don’t have cattle pens to house fans anymore.
All I’m suggesting is a fence (could be similar to the one they erect behind the pre match warm up goal ) on the outskirts of the pitch.
It’s obviously preferable to have no barriers- but as has been seen recently, you give some people freedom and they abuse it.

Because some people abuse freedom is not an argument to deny all people freedom... unless you are in a totalitarian state.
I'm all in favour of having every fan strapped into their seat using a roller-coaster style harness. They will be taken to their seat by a steward and strapped in for the entire 90 minutes - and have to ask permission to be walked to the toilet and refreshment kiosks when a steward is avialble to do so.
They will then be released, a row at a time, after the fans have safely left the pitch and in sufficient numbers that - should they still try to invade the pitch, can easily be managed without stewards being outnumbered. No bad behavior, no constant standing during the game, no pitch invasions, no crushing and most importantly, no fun.
I'm OK with this as long as I get a tube to suck beer from. Happy to pay up front or charge by the cl.
Keep pitch invasions
