Incident Involving Billy Sharp

I've edited the link to reflect it will go to a charity he nominates, never thought to check tbh, believed it still to be active as I found a text donation method but little else. 2 hrs sleep and no coffee cos the milk at work has turned dulling my brain a bit today!

Zoe - thank you for doing this - I will contribute.

As many others have said - keep off the pitch

Sadly bad behaviour has returned to football

We must all play a part to cut it out

This is so right.
After our match at Bournemouth I wrote of the danger to players and officials.

It’s a curse, it’s unlawful and it spoils it for everyone.

The Club has given us all renewed hope -

Yet we ignore the Chairman’s request not to go on the pitch.

I applaud the Club for its quick Official Statement.

but

the club will face consequences

No-one least of all Billy Sharp deserves this

It’s put a real damper on the teams achievement

No it is a tradition for the home winning team fans to go on the pitch after winning the play-off final. The authorities accept this, while pretending they don't. It is that rare opportunity for most fans to get close to the players. I had a little chat with one last night, so glad I went on. One lunatic, out of thousands. No dampener at all, he will be dealt with.

Overall, great occasion, great atmosphere, no trouble at all and one lunatic, who will have to answer for his actions. The conduct of a proportion of our fans at Sheffield was more of a concern.

So as long as the right player gets punched it's alright then? Really?

You probably took me a bit too literally.

Its not alright, but its the sad reality of life these days, I just dont get why folk are so shocked by it. I,m not sure why Heckinbottom is so vocal on it given what he did to Spence.

What the bloke did was f***ing brainless, but in this day & age, you wind folk up & you get punched in the face. I get some dont have the mentality to accept it, but I have, hence my slightly more diluted reaction to the whole saga.

Id imagine if this happened in the street in Sheffield, Billy would have forgotton about it by now.

Why do you make that judgement about bad behaviour? I have been to 30 odd games this season and before Saturday seen nothing and apart from a few Derby and Leicester fans acting up heard of little. We have had some huge games as well at the City Ground.

You are right and when you look at how many fans go through the gates every saturday its actually a miracle that we dont have many many more incidents of racism, assault, antisocial behavior. You are not wrong with that however we have to take this seriously because this was physical assault and next time the outcome could be tragic.

I don't think any fan could have stopped him last night as well. Loads of people were running around how do you know if one person has the intention of running into a player.

I also dont subscribed that there shouldnt be pitch invasions but we need to make sure we get all the players off first or something otherwise I am not in favour of running on because as I said the amount of people who go to football just pure math stats you run the risk of incidents like this.

He got headbutted by one of our "fans" and still hates Derby more. Billy is a legend.

Bloke has always been a class act. Huge respect.

Hopefully the moron who did this gets found and arrested soon.
Its an outlook that you would hope a class act like that would have and he doesn't disappoint, in fact he rarely does when we are concerned.

Well said Billy Sharp

I think Notts police confirmed that they had arrested a 31 year old prick at 4am this morning in relation to this (I might have paraphrased slightly but its a far more polite version of my true description of him).

Big red key at the door about 4am apparently. It was announced as breaking news at 5.15 this morning while I was watching Sky

Absolutely no excuse for this behaviour. Billy Sharp or any other player should not be subjected to this sort of thing.
Unfortunately, people with aggressive tendencies read situations wrongly and react in a way most of us would be ashamed of. However, maybe the following shouldn't happen......
a) A manager who sets out to wind up opposition players. So much so that one manager chooses to keep players on the pitch to keep opposition players apart.
b) Players crowding the referee at any opportunity.
c) Players refusing to give the ball back to the opposition after conceding free kicks, corners and throw ins. Refs should be encouraged to book players who overstep the mark.
d) Opposing fans being bottled in streets after games.
e) Pitch invasions.
f) Flares thrown around at any opportunity.
g) Players swearing at referees.

I am thrilled that we are on our way to Wembley but I can't help having a slightly bad taste in my mouth. Just saying.

Look into the pay of any executive involved in any charity you could name and come back to me. If you have any spare money people give it to your local hospice or the like but not a charity, not much of your money will get to the actual charity.

One of the safest things about this is I can see it leading to long term bad blood between us and them. I know they are to
Some degree “local rivals” but I’ve never got too bothered about them. Certainly not like Derby or Leicester but I think last night may have changed that and for me if anyone is to blame it’s Heckimgbottom. His tactic of winding up everyone before and during the game was a disgrace. I’ll never look at him the same way again

I said to my brother Heckingbottom was going to lamped if there's a pitch invasion after that thing on Spence.

Absolutely don't condone what this fan did to Sharp, but something like that was bound to happen. Not just because of Heckingbottom but Fleck holding McKenna's boot for half a century to stop him getting back into box before they scored their second, Jack Robinson's pathetic dive in the last few seconds and all the niggly stuff over the two legs.

In an emotional tie like the play-offs, if you insist on poking a wesps nest then don't be surprised if you get stung. Too many fans, too much alcohol, guaranteed at least one nobber is going to react to it when the opportunity arose.

There was dozens of examples of them giving it to the crowd during corners or breaks in play. Half their team did it throughout the game.

They only have themselves to blame for the attack, honestly. If you spend 2 legs riling up and pressing the buttons on thousands of people one is going to react. What makes it insane is why it happened to Sharp - probably the least deserving of all their squad and he has his own team mates to blame for it.

I think Heckinbottom showed his immaturity as a manager and person. Spence just laughed it off becuase he was trying to get him booked, just like what Robinson did in the first leg.

All our players deserve huge credit.

That is a sweeping statement about charities and as with all sweeping statements is factually incorrect for the vast number of small charities that support local communities.

As a Trustee for two local charities I can categorically state that 95% of all funds that we generate are spent on charitable activities as defined in our constitutions and ratified by the Charity Commission. My position is voluntary and in addition to the day job. I receive no remuneration and along with my fellow trustees who run the charities I do not even claim all my expenses. I know of many similar charities.
