I have been in favour of a sin bin for years.

But, sadly, our law makers simply don't know how to frame the laws and just bugger up the whole system with weird 'guidance'.
That’s the problem,VP-the laws and rules seem to get more complicated in what is basically a simple game.
Keep suits and administrators out I say.

It's a crap idea and all it will do is just slow the game and increase time wasting as teams with a player down play it round the back or take ages to do things while they run the clock down so their sinbinned player makes it back on the pitch.

Two things.....

1. Stop copying other sports and trying to introduce things from them.

2. Ask the fans...you know, the people that actually go to the games, what they want!
This.

I want football to be football, and while I don't mind the goal line technology (from a fairness pov) and wouldn't argue against robot linespeople (ed209 would do) if the technology worked since they do so little now anyway, applying the rules in a fair manner would solve all of the games problems for me...

Its as simple as this it what you get a yellow for, this is a red, this is offside, this is handball now have at it - human error might happen but I'd rather one person makes that than eight or so, four of which aren't even on the field of play.

Oh, and enforcing the rules can't be as hard as they make it can it? Remember all those early season yellows and sending offs because of the 'clamp down'... how's that worked out?

A month or so in and everything reverted to normal because once again the people applying the rules have flaked on it, or 'interpreted them differently'.

just set the rules out clearly and enforce them fairly - it's not that hard.

Im no expert but surely the smart move is to have less cards not more?
If the refs and var can't handle 2 colours how are they going to manage when there is 3 different colours?

I heard an argument against giving penalties for holding/grappling at corners the other day - "in a week you'll have 30 players sent off in the premier League"

My response: "and? They'll soon stop doing it if they know there's punishment for it."

Likely already been pointed out but, you imagine VAR being a legitimate use for a sin-bin offence. If so, you can also imagine the delays for the whole moment to run its course on pitch; 2-3 mins VAR, 1-2 minute of player standing around, 3mins of Fernandes arguing with the ref, 3mins of ref walking over and explaining it to the manager, 1min booking Casemiro and, another minute organising the players on the pitch once the off-pitch stuff had been dealt with.

All followed by three-hours listening Neville and Kenae saying 'they get what they deserve - it wouldn't have happened in my day' and a weeks worth of press.

What a great opportunity for an advert break?

Interesting comment.
I listened to an article a while back - I can't remember where.
The narrative was that the aim was to elongate the game enough to be able to change from two 45 minute halves to four 25 minute quarters - similar to the NFL, as this would bring in more advertising revenue.
I hope it never happens - but nothing surprises me.
