Fcuk him off as quickly as possible.

I have never taken to him. Everyone needs time to adapt to new teams and leagues, but he is supposed to be a top drawer professional, in which case he should be able to adapt quickly, but £35M ain't top drawer in the PL, he is nothing special or better than anything we have.

Get rid ASAP before he becomes disillusioned and generates a toxic atmosphere. Danillo, Dominguez and Yates are fine and capable of keeping the team up. Having Sangare in the team is a team of 10 players.

Some players can make the step up to PL, some can't. An expensive experiment, but admit defeat early rather than waste time trying. Right now in the season is not the time to experiment and hope he comes good.

We are stuck with him due to his transfer fee, so hopefully he can come good in the long term. But for the remainder of this season he needs to be on the bench, we cannot afford to try and "play him into form" in our current situation.

Fully expect him and Origi to start on Tuesday though.

That was evident in the Fulham away game but the popular outpouring then was that the team was a mid-table side, and so that is my takeaway from yesterday's game too: These players are good and are getting held back.
Mid table but with the manager seriously holding them back was the view.

It's almost as if Murphy had some type of plan or something when he was here, which had that in mind. 🤔

Fire up the scattergun!!
tbf it wasn't as though every player signed under Murphy was a superstar.

Drager
Laryea
Panzo
maybe even Horvath

It seems to me that we never asked him if he wanted to come.
So what? He is a professional football player and should play for the team who pays his wages, not just down tools because he never wanted to come in the first place.
Reminds me of Freuler last season. I;ve not doubt there is a talented player, but the Premier League is 100mph, and this fella can't get past 60.
But you could see what Freuler had to offer, even if it wasn't coming out into performances - his natural game didn't suit a team who parked the bus and every player in the box whilst the opposition attacked. If you needed a player to keep the ball and recycle possession a bit in the middle he was fine but we didn't use that style.

Does anyone remember 20 odd years ago when Mateja Kezman signed for Chelsea from PSV?

After van Nistelrooy left PSV for Man United, Kezman scored a similar amount of goals for PSV as his replacement.

Kezman looked like he had his boots on the wrong way around when he arrived in the Premier League. Whereas van Nistelrooy took to it like a duck to water.

It's more difficult to adapt from a much slower pace of league like the Eredivisie. Antony has been the same at Man United. The Dutch league is a very risky market to look into when you're searching for a marquee signing. But that's what the club have gone for and so be it on them.

We should have kept going with the German signings in my opinion. It's a quicker paced league with end-to-end games and the quality is there. Niakhate, Mangala, Awoniyi. Don't think any of those were flops.
100%. The Bundesliga is the closest top league to the EPL.

Never said they were, we just had a better hit rate and a more together plan overall.

Then the Greeks started panic buying, and everything went to shit from there.
I think our best window in recent years was the January one in the promotion season as a prime example. Those three signings of Cook, Davis and Surridge were smart, affordable, fit what we wanted to do and were vital in helping us gain promotion.

I can't imagine post-Murphy Forest having a window like that. I miss the Murphy and Cooper era, we were a genuinely likable club with a real togetherness back then who did things the right way. The polar opposite to what we are now.

Completely agree mate, you could really tell we had planned the buggery out of that window. 10/10.

I like to hope that we can get back to that level of focus and togetherness, but it certainly won't happen whilst the owner has people like his son and Vrentzos getting involved with recruitment to the extent which they have in the past.

If you believe Drager was a Murphy signing I have a bridge in London to sell you.

In this clip he looks good. He's on the pitch to break up play then give an easy pass to his midfield partner. Think Nobby Styles. And I agree, we can see the player from this clip in the team for us. The perfect Sangare moment is an opponent pass bouncing off his shins and falling to MGW. Vital, but never going to look pretty.

MGW / Sangare centre midfield pairing next season. Calling it now!

I agree with you about that window Alf, with all three making a significant contribution for the remainder of the season. Even though Murphy didn't approve of Cook's signing, the experience and know-how that Steve Cooper recognised in him was so obvious.

Yes, at the time I didn't think we needed another centre back but Cook"s value became quickly apparent. A genuine experienced pro who played such a huge part in our promotion.

I hope Syrianos being made technical director means that the ownership will be taking a step back and letting proper football people make recruitment decisions at the club again. Whatever league we are in next season, I hope lessons have been learned.

Never been so excited about a transfer. I was so sure he'd take us to the next level.

Needs to pull his finger out ASAP and get on the energy drinks or something.

Just doesn't look suited to the pace of the PL. Tbh he looked shite in the AFCON games I saw him in. Still holding out a slight bit of hope as it took Orel & Taiwo a while to adapt.

I think his confidence is pretty shot tbh - while we have a right to be frustrated with his levels he will have expected things to go far better this year and I'm sure will be disappointed. Losing his international spot too... It's not gone well for him.

Hopefully he comes good - will be a career defining test for him imho.

I agree Ash, that does seem a sensible decision to have Syrianos overseeing recruitment across EM's stable of clubs. What are the chances we'll use Oly and Rio Ave in a much smarter way to try and negotiate a way around the PL's efforts to try and fuc.k us over should we survive?

We already have I think with Oly's Nelson signing.

I cud see the idea of picking Yates and Sangare against Luton-more physicality needed, particularly on set pieces. Yesterday, surely plan was to get on front foot, more pressing and try to dictate play and possession which requires ball players who are more dynamic and mobile so they can find space etc. Surely midfield was wrong pick by Nuno yesterday. I like Yates and at least he was trying to take responsibility by taking ball off defenders, but surely that is not his strength, it was a tactic Hughton used to apply! Also Stats show Palace are not generally a threat from set pieces so physically not particularly essential. Our lack of mobility was painful in centre and Eze and at times the 32 year old Ayew could walk passed Sangare.

I think whatever league we are in we are going to be in a difficult situation. Hopefully the club are planning for both eventualities. The possibility of using our links to EM's other clubs may well come into play if Syrianos is running the recruitment of all three clubs I'd imagine. That young Reading defender who signed for Oly is supposedly for us in the future, for example.
