But what Freuler did, Mangala did, and Sangare looks capable of doing when he's fit, is keep hold of the ball and be available to receive the ball when others are in trouble. We really, really miss that in the side at the moment.

Feels like that falls into the central midfield trap that most of our recruiters have fallen into. We've been a counter
attacking side for a long time now, we need the ball moving quickly & incisively. Proactivity is key.

Freuler was the polar opposite, as was Mangala, Yates & Dominguez too. All players who slow the thing down with neutral sideways passing. Christ this is the best league in the world, we need more than midfielders who can show for the ball & make a simple pass.

I long for the day when we're not in such a position we're having to absolve shite like Freuler.

What you mean is we will be able to spend £100m each on every new player without risking PSR violation. We could (possibly) tempt Rodri & De Breune away from the Etihad, and Rice away from Arsenal.

If all is to be believed that's why we bought Sangare - his Toulouse days (I think it was there?) were apparently all about him breaking up play, retaining the ball in tight spaces, getting the turn on and shifting it forward asap. We haven't seen too much of that yet, though we have seen some nice medium-long range forwards passing at times.

… and him gifting possession in dangerous areas and not bothering to track back after so doing. He plays like he has a spliff just before kickoff

Sangaré won't be given anywhere near that time by many because of his price tag.
We don't have time.

We all know where we're at, we need the supposed big hitters to step up now. Surely we didn't fork out that money for Sangarre to flower in the championship. Scrutiny is right up there on everyone whilst we stare into the abyss. We go down & every f***er at the club is a failure.

Sangare was 25 when we signed him. Turned 26 in December. But yeah, put him in an entirely different category from 24-year-old Mangala. Honestly the amount of reaching you do to defend an argument Alf, your arms must be ten foot long 🤣
Sangare is 26 now though isn't he? That's one of the reasons why I wasn't on his case when we signed him (along with the fact that he deserved time to settle) 🤦‍♂️

I'd be expecting Mangala to up his game if he wasn't performing by the time he hit 26 too.

At least my reach can grasp basic stuff like that :ROFLMAO:

Hadn't realised turning 26 was this incredible night and day threshold, dawn of a completely new beginning, in every player's life 🤣 Better check who else at the club is 25 and thus about to hit greatness. Is it like turning 27 for tragic rock stars but in a good way?

Orel Mangala is 26 on Monday. Wonder if Lyon have a get out clause in case he isn’t tearing up Ligue 1 immediately after the international break

A good point of comparison is perhaps Thomas Partey - he arrived at Arsenal I think at the apparently magic age of 26 (might have been 27?) for 50 million pounds (50m then 80odd m now?). Took him a good season and a half to start producing with consistency.

Edit: I will actually stop now.

Folk with some common sense can see my point that between being and 24 and 26 you evolve a lot and hit your peak.

But sure, if you all want to play dumb and play it up as an overnight thing to try and cope, then by all means you do you.

Although it's actually really sad how many of you on here don't expect Sangare to put in against Luton. You've wrote him off far more than I have with that uber-low standard.

Sangare has only started one game since he turned 26 anyway which we won..

Point proven 😁

Unpopular though it may be, my view is that the lad has largely been a victim of circumstances, for want of a much better expression - arriving very late into the squad; not being utilised in his normal role; injury; new manager assessing the squad; recall and looking impressive; suspension; AFCON; injury.

Hopefully, now that he appears to be fit again he can finally settle into Nuno's more progressive, higher-line approach and make a positive impact during the run-in.

Yes, he can look like I used to if the Tuesday 5 aside league fixture was a late one.
When doing my Articles w had a very active sports society.
We had a lad played in our 11 and 5 a-side teams who strolled around the central midfield area like he was Beckenbauer.
Strolling was where the similarity ended.
His was the only shirt not soaked with sweat come the end of any game :)

I'd have to get stuck in early to put some fire iny belly to ride it out. There were times when I played up front when I was definitely better cut, though it was a fairly low bar!

For various reasons his season has been a bit of write-off so far. He certainly looks like a fairly poor bit of business so far and if worry that based on that, we'd be luck to recoup £10m if we end up getting relegated. Can't see him hanging around for a season (or more) in the second tier either way.

We would probably go down the Leeds route and loan him out.

One thing we have been decent at under Marinakis is getting fair value for anyone we've sold. I'd be confident even if he does have a relegation release clause the club won't have written in they can take a £20 odd million haircut.

I'm holding out hope he'll come good in these remaining games, Nuno mentioned he needed to work on his fitness, if he's managed to get him where he needs to fitness wise then I think he'll be fine. As others have mentioned he looked decent after a slow start against Newcastle, unfortunately he was suspended for the next game, then off to AFCON and injured upon return.

However, a pro footballer shouldn't need to be reminded about fitness levels.

Don't be silly. If we sold him in the summer we'll have no problem getting most of our money back.

He is honestly my favourite player in the squad i know it sounds daft but the quality is in there for sure he just needs a run of games just like CHO to get back up to speed he has the quality you dont go a bad player overnight he has probably found it hard with a new culture and not speaking much English but he is starting to look happier even in the training videos he is smiling more and being more involved which is only a good thing, he just needs to have a game of controlling it like he can or scoring a worldie which he can then its lift off

Based on what? He's not really played this season and when he has he's looked mostly average at best. As others have rightly pointed out he'll be 26 and should be at his peak, so no prospective buyer is going to be paying over the odds for potential any more.

If we go down we'll need to sell a lot of players quick to cover our huge wage bill before FFP swoops round for another pass. It will be a fire sale generally, and I can't imagine the player himself knuckling down for a season or more in the Champ, he'll more likely be one of those straight on the phone to his agent.

The social media side confuses me, though i am a dinosaur and like it or not that seems to be the future

we're shown an abundance of edited clips & a happy clapper, media friendly view of the boys in training, stepping off the coach etc. " look how together we are"

Personally, considering what we're facing into, id like to see less smiles, diamond earings and designer headphones and a little more graft / sweat and determination on those vids

I think our owner would too
